The low cost Eee PC is one of the hottest items this holiday season and Asus has expanded its ultra-portable notebook family ahead of Christmas with the recent addition of the $299 2G Surf and the $499 8G models.

As you can probably guess by its name, the Asus Eee PC 2G Surf boasts 2GB of flash memory. It also comes with 512MB of DDR2 memory, a 4-cell 4400 mAh battery good for 2.8 hours of use, and is the first Eee PC model to be available in "Blush Pink", "Sky Blue" and "Lush Green" colors. The $499 8G model, as previously reported, ups the specs with an 8GB SSD and 1GB of DDR2 memory. The new models are available for purchase at Newegg.

In other news, some guy known as "Jkk" has posted one of the coolest Eee PC mods yet. He managed to add a touch screen to his Eee using a $60 7-inch car kit he bought from eBay and it seems to work seamlessly with both pen and finger. Check the full video here.
