Apple has launched two new models on its iPhone and iPod product lines, increasing storage capacity to double the amount of previous models.

Effective immediately, meaning the new models are now ready to order, the iPhone now comes in a new 16GB model for $499. It joins the 8GB model for $399. And the iPod touch now comes in a new 32GB model for $499. It joins the 16GB and 8GB models for $399 and $299, respectively.

I'm sure that these guys can make a better storage upgrade than just doubling their existing models. If it was an ipod Touch 80gb, then I run to the store and get one. But just a measly 32gb isn't worth my time or money.

Either Apple device is future frightened. An expansion slot would have helped relieve some of my trepidations about buying either of these devices. A field replaceable battery would also have helped. Since we're talking about a fairly sizable amount of money, I'm going to be leery of buying tech that isn't future ready. I did skip the iPod Touch for a "Classic" 80 GB recently. It's also a slim device so I just can't see why the iPhone or iPod Touch couldn't offer a hard drive and match the storage capacity.I agree with you Julio, a future frightened and expensive iPhone tied to a multi-year contract isn't to my liking either. The "coolness" factor of the phone wears off after you've used it for a month and learn of it's limitations.
