Intel reading SSDs with up to 160GB capacity
Intel is expected to unveil their latest SSD storage range at IDF next week, according to a presentation slide leaked to Expreview. The drives will be made in conjunction with joint venture partner Micron and are perhaps a consumer version of the latter’s RealSSD products for servers.
Intel’s drives will reportedly be available in 1.8" and 2.5" format factors and offer impressive 240 MB/s read rates and 70-170 MB/s write rates. According to the site, Intel will release SSDs with 32, 64 and 80GB capacities sometime in the last quarter of 2008, while a 160GB version will arrive in Q1 2009.
This latest leak goes somewhat in line with what was reported back in May, when Intel was rumored to be preparing a major SSD push with similar-spec drives. There’s no information regarding how much these drives will cost, but hopefully their insane speeds won’t be matched with equally insane price tags.
