Air Canada is following in the footsteps of several other airlines around the globe by offering in-flight Wi-Fi. Similar to American Airlines and Delta, the carrier has inked a deal with Aircell in order to bring the GoGo broadband internet service to the skies on select flights.

The Montreal-based airline will start with two 120-seat Airbus A319s, charging $12.95 plus tax for each passenger who connects wirelessly to the Internet while flying from Toronto to Los Angeles and San Francisco. However, the service is to be expanded across Air Canada’s entire network once Aircell acquires the rights to the necessary airwaves in Canada. It’s interesting to see how Aircell (and in-flight connectivity for that matter) has gone from virtually zero to potentially reaching a critical mass in just a few months.
