Highly anticipated: The much-hyped GTA 6 preview debuted on Netflix last week, offering fans a look at real gameplay footage ahead of its planned November launch. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look reportedly drew 31.1 million views in just four days, catapulting it to the number one spot on Netflix's viewership list in most countries the service is available in.
The 27-minute video premiered at 3pm ET on Thursday, August 27, and by Sunday it had notched up more than 31 million views globally, making it the most-watched title in its category on Netflix for the week. The video also dropped on YouTube at 9pm the same day, after six hours of Netflix exclusivity, drawing more than 20 million views on Rockstar's official channel.
Interestingly, gaming content is a completely new category of entertainment for Netflix, so the GTA 6 preview is classified as an "English-language film." Despite the confusing classification, the video turned out to be a runaway hit, topping its category in 87 of 93 countries that Netflix tracks globally.
According to Sensor Tower, Netflix's mobile app usage during the preview was up 50% compared to the previous 12 Thursdays, while overall traffic to the website was up a whopping 125%. The massive spike crashed the website immediately after the video went online, but the platform recovered quickly and the stream went smoothly after that temporary glitch.
The 'Extended Look' features 27 minutes of in-game footage from PlayStation 5, offering the most detailed look yet at a game many industry insiders expect to rewrite sales records worldwide. Prior to last week's video, Rockstar had released two GTA 6 teasers, in December 2023 and May 2025, but neither showcased the gameplay in as much detail as the latest video.
The extended preview offers a deep dive into GTA 6's open world gameplay mechanics and the Leonida setting, showcasing protagonists Jason and Lucia in both cinematic and gameplay scenes throughout Vice City. Players can complete missions as either protagonist, working together as a team, or separately.
GTA VI will launch on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, with an unconfirmed PC version likely arriving a year or so later. The game is available for pre-order on the official Rockstar Store, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store, starting at $80 for the Standard Edition.
