Western Digital releases 500GB My Passport units

Western Digital expanded their mobile lineup today with the introduction of a new My Passport portable drive, offering a 500GB capacity. Available in two iterations of their My Passport series, the 500GB portable units go up to $220 in price and come with all the functionality you'd expect, such as software backup suites and drive-mounted capacity displays. They are, of course, designed to fit comfortably inside a laptop bag or a pocket, capitalizing on the recent introduction of their 500GB Scorpio 2.5” drives.

One interesting note is that the drive is fully USB powered, which is a blessing to anyone who often travels with extra hard drives. Lugging around power cables for them is just one more cumbersome thing to add into a laptop bag.
