With Baltimore’s XOHM network now up and running, Acer has become one of the first companies to announce WiMAX-touting notebooks that can take advantage of the wireless broadband network, which promises download speeds of 2 to 4 Mbps and upload speeds of 1 to 2 Mbps. Two models are available, the Acer Aspire 4930-6862 and Aspire 6930-6771, which are identical in pricing and specs, with the exception of the latter’s 16-inch LCD over the former’s 14.1-inch display.


This pair of Intel Centrino 2-based notebooks will use a module that combines WiMAX and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi networking. Other features include a 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, Intel GMA 4500 HMHD graphics, 3GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, dual-layer DVD burners, and Windows Vista Premium. Both systems are available to customers in Baltimore now through Newegg.com and TigerDirect.com, with a suggested retail price of $899.99.
