VMWare sees significant boost in profits
Despite the massive increase in competition for VMware the past few years, the company appears to be doing very well. A recent report from them indicates that the company has seen a significant increase in revenue and, even more important, an increase in profit.
The company saw a 32 percent increase in revenue for the third quarter and 28 percent in profit, primarily from strong sales of services they offer to companies using their products. The good news sent their stock value up quite a bit, making things even better for the company. This is also encouraging to those enterprises that began virtualizing early on, before other players like Xen and Microsoft had entered the market.
Will they be able to keep growth up when faced with a competitor as big as Microsoft?

Doesn't surprise me. With the release of Windows Vista (i.e. an overpriced, poorly designed operating system), I was more than ready to start using OSX as my main OS, and virtualize XP for anything I had to run on Windows. I can only imagine many others feel the same way. I've been running VMWare Fusion with XP for a while now, and, while it does consume a lot of RAM and processing power, it's a lot better than being stuck in XP. |

I hope VMWare lowers their price now and lets some of us poor slobs in small business play with their toys. While they keep me busy for a while, I'm a little tired of these happy meal gizmo's that they hand out for free and I want to be able to have the same bells and whistles the big fish have access to. |
