AMD intros Radeon HD 4830 budget graphics card
AMD has rolled out its latest video card aimed at gamers on a budget, the ATI Radeon HD 4830. As reported last month, the new card is meant to go up against Nvidia’s GeForce 9800 GT, and early tests seem to indicate the Radeon HD 4830 has the performance upper hand on some games.
The new card cuts down on performance from the Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 by reducing the number of stream processors from 800 to 640 but without compromising on the 256-bit memory bus. Its GPU core runs at 575MHz, and it comes with 512MB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 900MHz. As you might expect, the 4830 also shares a lot in common with the rest of the HD 4800 lineup, offering support for CrossFireX, DirectX 10.1, 7.1 surround sound pass-through over HDMI and UVD 2.0 for decoding HD video content.
ATI Radeon HD 4830-based cards will be available from a number of AMD partners, such as Asus, HIS, Sapphire, and others priced at around $130.
