Netflix streaming comes to TiVo
More Netflix in the news this week, the current streaming video king is looking to expand with the help of a new partner. Netflix is joining forces with TiVo, in an effort to expand both companies’ libraries with additional movies and TV episodes. The partnership has been in the works for a long time, but delayed for numerous reasons, many of them legal battles.
TiVo users will see the benefit first, with TiVo hardware capable of streaming from the Netflix catalog very soon, but since TiVo isn't host to any content people who are strictly Netflix users won't see any benefit yet. TiVo has felt threatened by other DVRs being manufactured in recent years, to the point of taking some of them to court. As other companies have been looking to include Netflix support in their hardware, TiVo is working fast to make sure they keep up.
