I hope Apple's 1.8 billion iTunes drm removal tax goes over well. What the public is always suffering from is a deep lack of knowledge. If people don't know yet to burn the song to cd and rerip it to remove the drm, they deserve to pay the 30 cents. Either rip or rip-off. After all, Apple products always did cost 4 times more than pc products. I ditched iTunes in 2004 when it had viruses in digitally signed code TWICE. Either those Chinese/Indian programmers got out of hand, or they deliberately want to clobber the windows platform. Not to say that Microsoft is any angel either with its windows and drm copy protection schemes. Im glad I retired from data processing.[Edited by tonylukac on 2009-01-10 13:06:25] |

The thing that worries me most about the 'iTunes Tax' thing is that everyone is focussing on the fact that apple are charging more for a minor increase in bitrate and a DRM unlock. What frustrates me is that for slightly more or less than the cost of an iTunes album you can buy the CD from Amazon Marketplace. Studio-quality recording, real tangible album artwork, and a medium that can't be accidentally deleted. To top it all off, if you buy a CD you can rip it to any format you like, at whatever bitrate you like, as many times as you want./rant |
