Via is often thought of as a component supplier, and has to date released little in the "prebuilt" category. Their small, low-power devices are popular in environments where small form factors and low heat generation are key. Well they are going to be expanding their profile a bit, with a prebuilt piece of hardware aimed at data storage, the Via NSD7800.

The device is essentially a NAS system for the home and is pitched as the ideal solution for SOHO and family storage needs, offering support for up to eight hard drives. Powered by a 1.5GHz C7-D, the device is meant to be trivial to use, with easy access to drive bays and simple interfaces, including integration with things like Windows Home Server. It has onboard Gigabit LAN support, which should offer enough speed to satisfy home NAS use.

It does offer more than just traditional "Home NAS" features, such as a compact flash slot for OS installation, memory expansion and more. You can read more about it here
