Major Android update to arrive next month
T-Mobile has confirmed that the much awaited “Cupcake” update for Android will be launched for the G1 sometime in April. Excluding a number of minor maintenance releases, this will be the first major update for the open source mobile platform, and should introduce features such as an onscreen keyboard and stereo Bluetooth support along with an upgrade to the underlying Linux kernel.

According to Pocket-lint the update is likely to come at the same time as the UK release of Vodafone’s HTC Magic, which lacks a physical keyboard but adds a few perks, and should help T-Mobile keep the G1 fresh. Cupcake also promises a number of other improvements, such as a voice recorder, a video recorder and the ability to save MMS attachments.
