Dell has added new configuration options for its premium mobile workstations, including high capacity flash storage solutions. First launched in May, the Precision M4600 (15.6-inch) and M6600 (17.3-inch) can now be purchased with one or two 512GB SATA 6Gb/s flash drives. Dell claims it's the first vendor to offer a mobile workstation with a 512GB SSD that utilizes the latest SATA spec, citing read and write speeds of 500MB/s and 300MB/s. If 1TB of flash chips isn't enough, you can expand that capacity by 128GB with a mini-PCIe SSD.

Considering their respective form factors, the machines offer different display and graphics options. The smaller unit lists a handful of 1366x768 and 1920x1080 displays, including one solution with multi-touch support and another with an IPS panel. Graphics options include an AMD FirePro M5950 1GB, Nvidia Quadro 1000M 2GB or Quadro 2000M 2GB. Meanwhile, the 17.3-incher has a selection of 1600x900 and 1080p displays alongside an AMD FirePro M8900, Nvidia Quadro 3000M or Quadro 4000M with 2GB of video memory.

Both aluminum-clad machines share virtually identical specs across the board, including your choice of various Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, seemingly every client build of Windows 7, up to 16GB of DDR3 1600MHz RAM or 32GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM, a DVD or Blu-ray drive, and a nine-cell battery. There's no shortage of connectivity with wired and wireless network connectivity (including mobile broadband), USB 2.0, 3.0 and eSATA ports along with various card readers and video outputs. Pricing starts at $1,818 and $2,139 for Windows-equipped models (Linux units are cheaper, naturally). One 512GB SSD adds $1,120 while the second tacks $1,350 onto the bill.
