Boss fights have been a staple of video games since the beginning. Whether you play something as seemingly innocent as Mario or a game that scares the bejesus out of you. At the end of a level or the game itself, you’re likely to come face to face with an especially big, bad and mean character that’ll put your skills to the test. When done right, boss battles can really make beating a game that much more rewarding.
In this Weekend Open Forum we want to know: what are some of the most memorable boss fights you’ve endured? It doesn’t matter if it’s on PC or consoles, and it certainly doesn’t need to be recent, as long as you enjoyed sending them to hell piece by piece -- probably after facing defeat yourself a dozen times first.

Bonus video: The Video Game Bosses' Lament
Good story gwailo247, I liked that. It brings back the very essence of childhood.

Do not miscall this holy relic.

best game ever

Oh yes, yes indeed.
These bosses
All Metal Gear Bosses
Resident Evil Boss

The giant vehicle spewing multiple tracking munitions all over the screen, from every Japanese scroll-shooter ever;

Was going to say R-Type, but you nailed it with that.
- butcher in level 2 in diablo. I got my pants wet
- the brain on robot in fallout 1
- first fight in bioforge
The Cyberdaemon from Doom was particularly nasty... apart from him I've not heard of any of the others mentioned here...
As I recall it took 50 rockets to finish him off... while trying to dodge his triple rocket launcher (which has auto aim...).
Either Yellow 13 from Ace Combat 4 (wasn't hard, just kinda really ******* epic when you're 9), or "It" from Resident Evil 4.
Every boss fight in both Dark Souls and Demons Souls. Beating a regular enemy in those games feels like an accomplishment, beating a boss is more thrilling than your first childs birth. Best RPG's released in the past 10 years.
Hitler in the good old Wolf 3D on the very last level. It was the first 3D game I played, it loaded the whole thing from one floppy disk 1.44MB, it was amazing for something that small.
Razor in Need For Speed Most Wanted. What a prick!
Is it bad that I'm actually pretty excited for the Techspot Community post this Thursday?
Any boss fight in the Japanese import "Cho Aniki" for the PS1. If I had to choose one, I would say the first one. The one that looks like a fatass with a human for a penis. It's a pretty messed up game.
Archimonde and Illidan from WC3. Pretty intense. Most memorable though would definitely be Albert Wesker in Resident Evil 5.
I can't remember the exact one but the fight with Nefarious in the Ratchet in Clank Series.
for me, the Dr. Robotnik fights have been pretty epic, the most memorable of which I can remember is the Marble Garden one from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. That's because it was the first boss fight that, as I recall, happened on-flight (Tails would help Sonic by flying to the boss machine, and then Sonic would jump, damage it, fall but then Tails would pick him up.) That was also one of my most difficult DR bosses ever since when you'd lose your rings, you would be lucky if you got 1 back, the standard was to lose everything.)
That pink flying b#tch in Ninja Gaiden. I swear I tried to beat her about 100 times.
Have to say my tops are
My very first major boss, the dragon at the end of Tomb Raider 2
Evil executive chairman Drek from Ratchet and Clank
Mz. Ruby (Vicious voodoo) in Sly Cooper
The Bride in Ms. Splosion Man
Nihilanth from Half-life.
GLaDOS
and, though, I guess, not technically a boss, the very first time I "tried" to fight a Big Daddy in Bioshock 1 ... also anything that concerned Sander Choen
