Weekend Open Forum: Sports and technology

I’m no different than the average Joe when it comes to things I’m passionate about. Two things high on my list of interests are technology (obviously) and sports. For years the two remained separate but over the past few years I’ve noticed that technology is shaping how I follow my favorite sports teams and athletes in general.

I use the ESPN app on my phone to keep track of scores when I’m away from a TV and will likely download the streaming app for the 2012 Olympics since I will be out of town when they start. I’ve been watching free preliminary fights on the UFC live Facebook streaming page before each big event for the past several months.

With this week’s open forum, we want to hear about how you integrate technology into sports you follow. Do you subscribe to NASCAR RaceView, NFL RedZone or use any smartphone apps to stay up-to-date away from your television?

  1. I subscribe to NFL RedZone, but that's about it. Don't misunderstand, I'm a big as sports junkie as anyone, especially when it comes to football. But between all my friends who have smart phones, being near a computer of TV most of the day plus attending live sporting events where there are scrolling scoreboards there - I don't need to do much more to stay in touch.

  2. I like sports but not as much as some people. Usually if I am not in front of the computer or the TV then I don't think about scores or updates or whatever. I do keep ESPN3 running just about all the time though.

  3. I watch sports on my TV. thats really all. I cant stand using any mobile screen for video watching, and I got my xbox for gaming, not TV.

  4. I watched nba playoffs-finals on free tv whenever I can.

and remained updated (if unable to watch tv) thru nba.tv android app on my samsung galaxy y.

and no, I don't have a subscription on any nba premium offering.

  5. I used to be into sports, but then I got an arrow in the knee.
