YouTube has revealed their 2012 Top Trailers Leaderboard as we inch closer to the end of the year. The annual list includes trailers for Hollywood blockbuster films, television programs and even upcoming video games. It was the latter category that dominated charts with a single title responsible for four out of the top 10 trailers in 2012.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Live-Action trailer took the top spot this year with over 35 million views. In second place was the reveal trailer for Black Ops 2 with more than 29 million views. Interestingly enough, the live-action trailer wasn’t posted until October 29 – giving the reveal trailer more than five months of additional air time.

The bronze goes to the third official trailer for The Dark Knight Rises with close to 27 million views. Rounding out the top five is the official trailer for Skyfall and the theatrical trailer for Ted, raking in 17.5 million views and 15.4 million views respectively.

The rest of the top 10 looks like this: sixth places goes to The Hunger Games Theatrical Trailer #2 with 12.5 million views, the trailer for NBC’s Revolution came in seventh with 9.9 million views, the multiplayer reveal trailer for Black Ops 2 ranked eighth with 8.8 million views, Skyfall’s official teaser trailer placed ninth with 8.7 million views and the launch trailer for Black Ops 2 claimed the final spot with 8.2 million views.

YouTube said the top 10 videos combined for more than 170 million views which they claim is proof that great ads can be entertaining as well as informative.
