Version 4.0 of blogging platform turned bona fide content management service (CMS) WordPress is now available. The update includes a number of new features designed to bring users a "smoother writing and management experience" according to a blog post on the matter.

Despite being version 4.0, the update - named "Benny" in honor of jazz clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman - is just the next release after version 3.9 according to Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg.

Even still, there's enough here for most to get excited about. For instance, WordPress has added a new details preview that makes viewing and editing any amount of media in sequence a snap.

Adding to the visual theme, the company has made adding embedded content a visual experience. Now you can simply paste a YouTube URL on a new line and it'll automatically become an embedded video. The same can be said for other content including CollegeHumor videos, YouTube playlists and talks from TED.

When it comes to writing content, WordPress 4.0 now expands to fit your content as you write. Formatting tools are also kept handy in the sidebar should you need them. What's more, the new update makes it easier to find the right plug-in from a catalog of over 30,000 free and open source plug-ins.

The 6.3MB WordPress 4.0 update can be downloaded by clicking here. Alternately, you can simply update it from your WordPress dashboard.
