The weaker timings of the Value Select memory did have a slight affect on performance which was most noticeable in X3: Reunion at 1024x768. The DDR2-1000 configuration offered no really gains over the Crucial DDR2-833 config which means the FSB will need to be raised even higher to take advantage of such high memory frequencies.
