More parties want in on the desktop search game, and this time it's Google who have released something. The company today unveiled its first-generation desktop application for searching through personal files and Web history stored locally on a PC. According to sources, the application lets people retrieve e-mail, Microsoft Office documents, AOL chat logs and a history of Web pages previously viewed, all via a Web browser.
Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL also have similar products out or on their way, as the battle for this particular market heats up. The race to integrate Web navigation with PC search is on. It's anyone's guess yet as to the eventual winner.
