Google to unveil desktop search

More parties want in on the desktop search game, and this time it's Google who have released something. The company today unveiled its first-generation desktop application for searching through personal files and Web history stored locally on a PC. According to sources, the application lets people retrieve e-mail, Microsoft Office documents, AOL chat logs and a history of Web pages previously viewed, all via a Web browser.
Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL also have similar products out or on their way, as the battle for this particular market heats up. The race to integrate Web navigation with PC search is on. It’s anyone's guess yet as to the eventual winner.

integrate with the Web History, HTTPS files. It opens up in
Firefox just fine and when I visit google in firefox and it
pulls up my computer files in the google search perfectly.

today I got a call from a company I sent a resume to long
ago, and I used the Google Desktop Search to locate the
email. My thing is, since July, I've been using Mozilla Thunderbird for email. I need Google to support Thunderbird, which it doesn't at this moment.
