When I Start It Up It Comes Up With "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."
Would Me Very Grateful for any advice

Hi bizarretragedy

Please put your System Specs (http://www.techspot.com/downloads/3100-system-spec.html) in your Profile (http://www.techspot.com/vb/editprofile#systemspecs)
If your computer is a proprietory computer (like Dell; HP; etc..) plese write those details in the mobo field

This will enable me to locate your Audio and Video drivers

Also please avoid writing in bold, as it is harder to read. :)

This machine came with Vista (as you know)
But HP (your manufacturer) is only supporting Vista not Xp, on your system, see here-> http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3628036&lang=en&

As a last option (in HP providing help)
Please go here ->http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html (using Internet Explorer) and click on Start Detection

Report back if that worked for your system and Windows Xp.

Hmm

Hp have provided warranty support on your Vista machine.

I'm thinking go Vista (no sarcasm - it's just that you may as well get use to it)

You do have the recovery DVD? If not you can contact HP (on their contact page) and request a new one (they are usually very cheap - as you already have the licence key)

That's what I do!

You actually might have a Recovery Partition (actually it's likely you do)

When you first turn on the computer you should notice a prompt to start the recovery.

Actually, hang on. Installing Windows Xp you may have erased the prompt (the partition is probably still there though)

I feel you need to contact HP still. And request a new recovery DVD (~$20->$40 or so)

Actually now I'm not following you.

To install the Recovery DVD, you must start your computer with the Recovery DVD in the drive.

To start Windows (presently Xp) just start

To start recovery from the hidden partition, contact HP (as this partition is either gone, or the prompt is gone, from installing Xp)

I hope that helps :)

What actually happens?

You need to set the bios so CD/DVD is the first bootable drive
By pressing the key (DEL or wahatever the key is) when starting the computer
Then go to boot sequence
And make CD/DVD first; and Hard DRive second
Save and exit

Hi bizarretragedy,

I'm back on :)

OK you have installed Vista (hooray!)

Is it Vista 64 or Vista 32 ?

Referring you back to this page:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=uk&lang=en&product=3628036&dlc=en&#
Have you loaded all the updated drivers (after install) ?

Also you will have to update your Profile (http://www.techspot.com/vb/editprofile#systemspecs)(yet again)

Also scrub the ECS bit, and put in Compaq Presario SG3100UK

I'll wait for the reply (well I'll do other stuff actually)

Here's a good start (other than Driver updates ofcourse)

SG31** Series (your computer)

Clearing the BIOS settings:
Make sure the computer is off
(Cord out, and disperse all internal voltage by pressing the On button)

This motherboard has jumpers to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM in CMOS.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf-JAVA/Doc/images/c01237577.jpg

Temporarily set jumper CLR_CMOS_HP to pins 2-3.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf-JAVA/Doc/images/c01237578.jpg
Wait 5-10 seconds and then return the jumper to pins 1-2.

When you startup the PC you will need to enter BIOS setup (F1 or ESC) to reset any custom BIOS settings.

Here is a good guide to follow:

You may wish to Print this page

Inside Internet Explorer click on "Tools" on the toolbar
(Note: in IE7, you may need to press ALT on the keyboard to see the IE toolbar)

After clicking on "Tools" click on "Internet Options"

The first window you are presented with will be the "General" tab settings
Inside the "General" tab you can select "Delete..."
The next popup window will ask you what to delete.
You can select one button at a time, or "Delete all", answering Yes

Once this is completed (and it may take some time to do) Continue on:

Still in the General Tab

Click on "Settings" (next to Delete)
Change the "Disk space to use" to 65
Select OK

Now, go to the Security tab

Click on "Custom Level"
Click on "Reset"
Click on "OK"

Now go to the Privacy tab

What I do in here, is move the vertical slider slighty up or down
This allows "Default" to highlight
Click on "Default" (the slider will come back down)
Click on Apply

At last go to the Advanced tab

Click on "Restore advanced settings" (a bad way of saying default)
Also if you scroll down the list, you will find "Phishing Filter" (I usually disable this annoying popup)
Click on Apply
Click on OK

Restart Internet Explorer

Now, please try that page again

By the way is this Vista 64 or 32Bit ?

I cant access that because all my drivers are in one silver box which you cant open
Are you saying the web link doesn't open ?

The instructions above, are referring to using Internet Explorer. Confirming that clicking on links the pages will open.

32 or 64 ? (asked 3 times now)

There is only one important update:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-56884-1&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&product=3628036&os=2100&lang=en

Also, if I were you, I'd remove Norton fully, and install AVG (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff)

Oh the original question

It's as if this were your original post!

You know there are a lot of posts on this one game here at TechSpot
Some video cards work really well, some don't

Therefore it's trial and error at this point.
Let me know the outcome

Yay it works :)
or
No it doesn't :(
