I just got my comp and i wanted what you guys think bout it and what i should upgrade with.
I got another comp i just got this spare one for 300. USD
2002 Win XP Pro.

80GIG
AMD Athlon Processor
996 Mhz

i think for an xtra $19 you could have gotten a better all around comp

$318.72 total, imo much better than the one you bought but hey, no os, monitor or dvd+rw. i think you got an ok deal, more than good enough for a second pc

oops.. never read the second line, sorry. i;d say upgrade the video, s3 sux @$$ and proc/mobo/ram combo and you'll be all set

Buy a Radeon 9600 non-pro
Upgrade CPU to something little faster
Windows XP runs best on 512MB.
Good deal I suppose for $300.

I agree with Subkamran. The most important things you will have to upgrade are the Video Card (S3 just doesn't cut it), the CPU to atleast 1700 if not 2000+ and definatley the 512MB Ram will make a huge difference.

What is it you want to do with that computer in the first place ? If it's to run as a Gateway or file server, you won't really need 3D horsepower. If it's to play games on a LAN then that's another matter.
I do believe people manage very well with machines even slower then that one.

Im basically just turning it into a media center with music and video files, and i will later add a tv tuner and take into consideration about what everyone said bout upgrading
