The open-source Web server continued its rise last year, powering 67 percent of all Web sites, while rivals remained flat

The Apache Web server fared well in 2003, growing far more rapidly than its nearest rival, Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS), to remain by far the most widely used Web server on the Internet, according to new figures from Netcraft.

Apache is a wonderful web server.

The Apache ToolBox is a great tool for compiling custom Apache configurations under UNIX and its available here:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=28862

That should take the headache out of all that hacking you have to do with the ./configure script in apache, msql, php, etc and just have the whole thing bolt itself together automatically.
