Hi to all,
There is a Toshiba Satellite pro A60-PSA65E, when i boot it up, it doesn't boot from HDD, i changed the boot sequence starting from HDD, nothing helps, when i go to the BIOS, it is not there(it is not detected). I tried to replace with another HDD, still the HDD is not detected, i tried to set default values in the BIOS, still no changes at all.
Anyone has an idea how to solve this problem?
Thanks in Advance
Zenosincks 04-14-2008, 03:30 AM Reseat the HDD and if you still can't see it in the BIOS, it may very well be dead.
If it is seen in the BIOS, and, you just can't boot off it your OS might be corrupt. Run a repair installation if possible.
mood, change the HDD. if still it can't be recognized, this is southbridge failure(typical problem for this series of toshiba laptops)
Zenosincks 04-14-2008, 04:29 AM ...Is everything the result of a defective southbridge?
the problem is in the broken southbridge chip.
if your notebook keeps shutting down when you plug in the USB devices - the southbridge chip(fw82801DBM or NH82801FBM) may be broken and you need to replace it.
if Intel, it can be the southbridge problem. the USB contacts are going right into the southbridge chip(except 5v and GND of course ), thus, if you have shutting down device during USB connection - 90% that this is a southbridge faulty. the faulty which appears due to the statical electicity.
the southbridge chip must be broken. only chip replacing will helps you
the southbridge chip may also been broken. in this case - only the MB repairing or replacing can solve the problem.
try to remove hdd and cdrom. if the computer will show you the bios screen, so the problem is most in faulty hdd. if not, this can be the southbridge problem.
it can be southbridge faulty
if you connect firmly HDD,CDROM and floppy and still the laptop doesn't want to boot - then this is southbridge faulty. only chip replacing will helps.
AFAIK, inspiron 8000 is Pentium4 based laptop.... so, 82801CAM(or 82801DBM) is your problem.
if you have 830 chipset(Montara), you have the 82801cam southbridge. if so - you'll have to replace the chip.
test RAM, test HDD. if they work fine, then laptop needs the reballing of southbridge chip.
try to boot from USB-stick. it seems, that the problem is with faulty southbridge. tell the model of laptop.
ssampath, i very suspect, that this is southbridge faulty. this is typical problem for this series of acer laptops. the laptop MB is really has poor quality.
ylli, this is southbridge faulty. ou can replace the MB, ot you can repairing it.
ylli, just tell him, that you need the motherboard replacing for Acer 5100 models family. this family has same motherboard, and the typical faulty - the southbridge(ATI SB460) dying. the symptoms are: non working touchpad and USB ports.
the problems in this compal platform are: dead southbridge
it can be southbridge faulty.
thus, if HDD shows errors during reading and writing, it can be some disturbances in the primary/secondary IDE channels IN THE SOUTHBRIDGE CHIP.
this is standart procedure for identifying the southbridge faulty. if you can't boot from USB flash drive - be prepared for replacing the southbridge
this is standart situation of southbridge burning via USB static electricity.
i suspect, that replacing the southbridge will be cheapier
common problems with southbridge faulty etc.
you'll have no luck with this model, because this compal board has too many development errors(cpu socket located too near to northbridge, too hot system of mosfets of CPU current, constant problems with KBC controller and southbridge).
i suspect southbridge failure
Tedster 04-14-2008, 05:31 AM reseat the hard drive. use a pencil erase and LIGHTLY buff the contacts.
Zenosincks, yes everything. if you don't understand something, please welcome in thread "Low-level working of laptops".
Zenosincks 04-14-2008, 06:08 AM Lol, no thanks I'll spare myself of your propaganda. The only thing I can't understand is how people take you seriously.
well, you can believe me or not. but all things i say are from my practice and successful repairings.
Zenosincks 04-14-2008, 06:17 AM :) Fair enough. Lets leave it at that then.
