IE 8 printer trouble

I opened up a web page to get an order confirmation and was unable to get it to print as a letter size. This PC running XP is a cash register and it also has a receipt printer hooked up to it. The page I wanted to print would not print as a letter size it would only print the page in the receipt size 40 column. I tried custom sizing it and it just went back to the receipt setting. Other documents printed out fine and in the end I copy and pasted the page into a word doc and that printed OK. I also made sure the printer was set to and office printer and not the receipt printer. I tried Custom print as well as Shrink to fit. Nothing. Any words of wisdom out there? Thanks.

Install another printer, in addition to the Receipt printer. The Receipt Printer is designed to work the way you describe by default.
