If your getting a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) after a sudden system reboot this would mean you are experiencing hardware failure. Can you give us the specs of the computer component by component and the age of it. This could help narrow down possible causes. Also have you changed anything major recently.

is there any possible way to fix this?

Well you could uninstall Kaspersky Antivirus (although that may be extreme, it will work)
Sometimes these BSODs are caused by faulty memory, or Malware present, or even corrupted file system
You could try running CheckDisk (Checkdisk Xp (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265), or Checkdisk Vista (http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-vista/how-to-use-check-disk-in-windows-vista/)instructions) on your system
Or from your Windows CD bootup:
Select the first R prompt, to log into the recovery console
Press 1 then Enter
Then type: chkdsk /r then press enter
hey i dont mine uninstalling it at all if it fixes it because currently i cant even run safe mode
so what im thinking of doing is copying all the files to an external hdd and do a fresh start but if i can fix this without formating then it would be great
heres the message i get from the blue screen of death
The BSOD says:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to you computer.
The problems seems to be caused by the following file: dlif.sys
The driver unloaded without cancelling pending operations.
If this id the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appers again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If
this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for
any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable compeoents, restart your computer,
press F8 to select Advance Statup options, and then select Safe Mode.
tried the checkdisk in windows boot cd but it still didnt fix the problem
what should i do now?

Here's a couple more options
Press F8 at startup, and then select "Last Known Good Configuration"
You can also run System Restore from XP Recovery Console (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058)
Once in the Recovery Console, just change directory to Windows\system32 folder and enter rstrui.exe
ie Press enter after each of the following commands in the Recovery Console (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058)
CHDIR Windows
CHDIR system32
CHDIR Restore
RSTRUI
Once finished, then restart
Ideally let me know if it worked or not
Edit: I forgot "Restore" Directory (now added above)
EDIT2
Looks as though System Restore cannot be run from the Recovery Console
Only Normal, or Safe Mode; or Safe Mode Command Prompt

Doh!
I missed a directory:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore\RSTRUI
Please also change to Restore folder before running
Edit:
You cannot run System Restore from the Recovery Console, but can be run via Safe Mode with Command Prompt (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449/en-us) C:\Windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
arcadian9

Are you in: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore\ folder?
Edit:

yes im in that folder
kimsland
10-28-2009, 10:58 PM
Just type DIR and press Enter
What's in that folder?
Oh, I'm running XP Pro SP3 as well
arcadian9
10-28-2009, 10:59 PM
i typed it and i have
filelist.xml
rstrui.exe
srdiag.exe
srframe.mmf
am i just suppose to type rstrui.exe and press enter to run it? or is there a command i need to type before it
kimsland
10-28-2009, 11:01 PM
Nope
You just run: rstrui.exe
But I mentioned: RSTRUI, because that should start it too, maybe you put an "L" where the "i" was

i dont know i keep getting
The command is not recognized Type HELP for a list of supported commands
kimsland
10-28-2009, 11:13 PM
This what I do in that case:
Dir R*.exe <enter>
It should list: rstrui.exe
I then perfectly write: rstrui and press <enter>
Note: This is obviously in the Recovery Console
Hmm, I'm going to attach the files in that folder zipped up, to show you mine's the same
Edit:
You cannot run System Restore from the Recovery Console, but can be run via Safe Mode with Command Prompt (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449/en-us) C:\Windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Wait (and sorry for double post)
But did you press 1 and log onto your Administrator account? When going into the Recovery Console
I really hope so ;)

if this doesnt work whats another method because i cant seem to get it running....
arcadian9
10-28-2009, 11:20 PM
i pressed 1 and then they asked for my admin pass which was blank
arcadian9
10-28-2009, 11:20 PM
when i typed dir rstrui.exe it shows the file info
even when i try to see the file "filelist.xml" i get the same thing saying the command is not recognized
kimsland
10-28-2009, 11:22 PM

That ;)
And maybe forget Kaspersky next time
I use free Avira Antivirus
And I'm running Windows firewall (running it for years, and no ill effect !!!, NO idea what other support are talking about with all this other stuff)
the command is not recognized
As I stated just above (ok previous page now)
Make sure that you are logged in as Administrator
arcadian9
10-28-2009, 11:24 PM
but the problem is that when i try to enter my files in dos i get "access is denied" =S
kimsland
10-28-2009, 11:27 PM
Oh dear :)
You just need to start your working computer in Safe Mode
Then right click on the "access denied" folders
Select Tools > Folder Options > Security Tab
Then give your user account (still on the working computer) full access to your slave harddrive folder
Strange I know ;)
arcadian9
10-28-2009, 11:30 PM
ok heres another problem hahah
i cant access safe mode as i get this message
"windows xp setup cannot run under safemode. setup will restart now"
kimsland
10-28-2009, 11:31 PM
Are you saying that your other working computer does not have Safe Mode working?
WinXPert
10-28-2009, 11:35 PM
System Restore does not work at the Recovery Console
arcadian9
10-28-2009, 11:51 PM
so your saying i should put the hard drive on a working computer as a slave drive and change the settings so that i can have access?
is it possible to reinstall windows xp on the existing hard drive without delete my files?
basically like over writing it
kimsland
10-28-2009, 11:53 PM
OMG !
I have to log into my Recovery Console and 100% confirm
But it looks as though you're right. d@mn! All the times I've mentioned this
Anyway here goes...
Edit: Confirmed (doubled up basically) that System Restore cannot be run from the Recovery Console :(
Thanks WinXPert, I'll go edit a few posts now :/

Yes, see here: Microsoft's Windows XP Professional Repair Install step by step (http://www.windowsxpprofessional.windowsreinstall.com/sp2sp3installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm)
Forget the Safe Mode Repair file
That was a bit of confusion, I thought you meant in a working computer
arcadian9
10-29-2009, 12:17 AM
i actually tried repairing it already but when it rebooted i still got the same problem
whenever i try to repair i get to the screen telling me to press "R" for another upgrade or press enter to do a clean install....when they mean clean install does it format my hard drive?
is it possible to put my hdd onto another computer as a slave and access the files from there?
kimsland
10-29-2009, 12:26 AM
but the problem is that when i try to enter my files in dos i get "access is denied" =S
I thought you had already tried that
But yes you can do that
And I answered that above as well (how to give yourself permissions on a working computer)
Note: I've been off and about editing posts that I mentioned System Restore
Here's what I've edited in:
