IBM is claiming that its new supercomputer is the world's fastest (http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1661863,00.asp), and steals the crown from Earth Simulator as the top of the top 500 (http://www.top500.org/list/2004/06/). The Blue Gene/L machine has reached a sustained peak of 36.01 trillion calculations per second—or 36.01 teraflops—during internal tests in the company's laboratory in Rochester, Minn.
