On some of the later models, it is under the PCMCIA slots and the rubber insulating sheet. I can offer nothing but that. It will have a "24" in the type number, have 8 pins soldered to the board and be somewhat tiny. When you locate it, contact me at

Hello all. I have Latitude D600 9PKLP0J-595B. My book was protected by primary adm. pass. My friend tried many times wrote wrong pass. but still wrong of course. When i tried write my old correct pass, it was inncorrect :-( Is there some counter of bad entering pass? Can you please to write someone (for ex. maestro PARAGON33) step by step how to remove primary adminn pass without lost bios or some datas? It is some way to read correct pass from reading eeprom file?

Thanks much

That system was purchased outside the US, so there is not way that I can help remove it. And flashing the bios will not clear a bios password, that best way to try to remove it is by removing the cmos battery to hopefully clear the bios.

Kenny81, that will not work on a Dell Laptop. Read back through the posts in this thread. Disconnecting a CMOS battery on a Dell will reset BIOS Defaults, but it will not affect the passwords which are stored on a different(EEProm)Chip, not the BIOS Chip

I succeeded erasing the eprom of a Dell Latitude D610 and a Dell Latitude D410. But just connecting pin 7 with earth did not work for me. (by both machines) i found it worked best if i first connect pin 6 with earth, then push the poweron button, (it will not turn on) then connect pin 7 with earth, and then again push poweron button. then it will turn on in factory mode. Then i did reset the servicetag, otherwise i could not use the administrator password and the systempassword.

My DELL D600 is again OK, many thanks to PARAGON33. I have last question: Do i need to setup asset-tag and owner-tag too, or it is enought service tag?

No, the asset tag and owner's Tags are not a requirement. The owner's tag is kind of nice; it puts your name or whatever on the initial Splash Screen.

Thanks IhateDell for your thoughts - I have tried a new set of RAM and it stops in the same place on all types of Wndows that I try to install - 14 mins to go on 98 and 34mins on XP. Maybe this RAM is no good either - but it's supposed to have come from another L400.

Bin time?

gary331w: my english ainīt no good either, but to reset the eeprom (a small chip) takes some skills in computer hardware. you have to know how to take it apart and not get static elektricity in the sensitive part of the computer. if you visit dell.com you will get a guide on how to do it. the eeprom chip on my laptop (Latitude D505) was under the pcmcia-card holder, itīs located right under ctrl shift buttons on the keyboard. find the eeprom that got the letters "24" and then i can continue my "bad english guide"

good luck! btw im swedish, so i can explain much better in swedish if some one needs it

If you click the link at the page top for CPUs, Chipsets and Mobos, on that linked page there is a button for New Thread. If on a different subject, go back to Home and select the area germain to your post. It should also have a New Thread button

I have a dell inspiron 5100 notebook and the service tag is "GK7JC31" I have tried everything I know possible. I have read all of the posts and tried every password given. When powering on the laptop, I am immediately asked for a password. Once entered incorrectly three times, the laptop then askes for a master pasword. When entered incorrectly, the laptop shuts down.

I believe that this is a bios protection password, but since I cannot enter the bios without the password I'm stuck.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Thank you

I made it!!!! After a many unsuccessful try, yesterday I did it! I unlocked the password of the BIOS! THX for Nattal once more!! According to the pdf what he sent me, I could to unlock my D610. I didn't find it in this chart, but it was a many useful information in it! I was total disassembled the notebook, and have find the EEPROM. Some advise:
By this model U can find the chip in the bottom, next to the BIOS battery. U must just remove the under cover. But so U R not able to see, because it is under the metal frame. If U can realized that it is the right chip, then it's not so hard to shorten. There is only this chip, next to the IR, towards of display from the small memory batt.
THX for all the aid, what I became from U!

Hi

I have a Latitude D510 which has the grey/white screen at power on asking for a password. I have managed to get all the info that I can, including contacting email removed

I spent the best part of this morning taking said laptop apart, but I could not find the chip anywhere.

Does anyone know the location of the 'chip' in a D510?
I would be very grateful

Cheers
