Broken ? Maybe the SETI servers are under a lot of load, wait a little then try again.

Well yes you need to download the software & create an account with it, otherwise you can't join.

OK, maybe a little premature of me!

Back to 22 CPU's, and over 115 WU's/day.

Well done guys!

OK, who's thae funnt s.o.b who read my post and got a whole network crunching?lol

55 CPU's! Nice one!

Well it would seem we have two Goalies in the team now.

BTW any comments on the FAQ ?

Two Goalies? That's never a bad thing, 2x as many WUs from him and we won't get scored on as much anymore ;)

What machine are you running it on ?

The one in your profile should be putting out one unit around every 3 hours.

Spike

OK, could sombody tell me...

I am using an athlon xp 2400+ 266 fsb, and 266 DDR RAM

I have SETI spy, Driver, and the client installed on a RAM Drive, along with the WU's. I have uninstalled all other clients.

I have increased my fsb speed to 286 (don't know what damage it'll do, I'm not a habitual overclocker! (Temp is still only 50 though) but now my Bios reckons on an Athlon XP 2700+), and this results in my processor speed moving from 2000 hz to 2147 hz.

Why haven't I seen some kind of increase in performance in crunching WU's? That's the only reason I did it!

(go on, put me at ease. How far can I take my fsb without causing damage or changing my setup/modding my hardware? lol)

Didou
02-28-2004, 12:54 PM
Well you should definitly see a difference thanks to that extra FSB bandwidth. SETI is much more sensitive to an increase in memory bandwidth then pure clock speed.

But when you look at SETI driver, don't expect the estimated remaining time to reflect your new CPU horsepower straight away. It's only as your progress on the WU goes along that SETIdriver is able to calculate the remaining time more precisely.

It's better to look at the time it took you to do one unit once that unit is finished & in that aspect the .csv file that SETIDriver can create is helpfull.

BTW I hope you're running the Ram in Sync with the FSB otherwise you'll loose all the performance increase since the Ram will not be able to feed sufficient data to the CPU.

Spike

I can't say if I am or if I'm not! lol I know next to nothing about O/C'ing(except for what my A+ course has taught me about the structure of the buses, and the likes). I just thought I'd try (being that I have fsb stepping on my mainboard)

Mainboard is an ASrock K7VT2. Heck knows what the brand of the ram is! All I have adjusted in the bios is the FSB speed. The only other overclocking option availiable to me in the BIOS is the SDRAM CAS Latency, which is set as 2.5

Now, I WANT to run the processor at a multiplier of 14 (instead of 15), and at a clock of 166 (333 fsb). Sadly, I don't have multiplier options in the bios. Memory to match would then would give me much better crunching power.

As it is, with a multiplier of 15, the system becomes too unstable for crunching at an fsb of 296 :blackeye:

Tempreture seems to hold steady at around 52 though at those settings. I really want to get my crunching power up. I think I'm going to have to do much learning!

Edit: I'm going to settle for a 145 internal clock, with a multiplier of 15, giving me 2175 MHz. Even this is a little unstable. Does anybody know where I can find some info I can learn to stablize my system at these settings and keep crunching?

MrGaribaldi
02-28-2004, 03:18 PM
Do a search of the boards...

There should be several step-by-step guides here...
I remember I've written at least one, but it could be on the old board who's posts are lost to time...

And if you can't find the info you need (you should though), post a new thread in Cooling and Modding and someone will help you out :)

Didou, nice faq!

And keep up the crunching the rest of you slackers! Oh, yes, that would include me too ;)

Spike

15) Perra 62WU's - 521 hr 16 min Total time - 8 hr 24 min 27.7 sec per WU - Mon Mar 1 22:59:04 2004

OK, how is this possible!?!

I've been crunching solidly for 24 hours, outputting 1 WU every 3 hours in general. 6-7 hours ago, Perra was on 52 WU's! Yesterday, he/she was nowhere near me on the board!

What the heck am I doing wrong!? lol

Mictlantecuhtli
03-01-2004, 06:19 PM
He has more than 1 CPU crunching, just like I have three.

Spike
03-01-2004, 06:37 PM
ah. that explains it! Thanks.

I think it would probably be better if the team stats could take that into account some how, like the number of CPU's per member or something, or maybe average number of WU's per day. Might be useful to know :D

Out of question, what exactle does CpF stand for, and what does it mean?

No units uploaded yet? Are you not crunching? Or are you just waiting to unleash hundreds on us at a time? :p

I havent been able to reconnect to the server. I completed one work unit here at work, but was never able to reconnect to the server to upload it. It tries then says it is unable and will retry in an hour. I installed at home as well and also was never able to connect to the server on the same account. I have a T1 here at work and Cable at home...
I guess I should reinstall????
The work unit trapped here on my pc is probably the Martian State of the Federation address and the world will never know...

I get that a lot too, just hit ctrl+c and start the app again, that's how it works here. I actually made a script to do that for me :giddy:

It's really odd because I never get that problem, either at work or at home.

OH- I resend and resend and resend and resend...Something has to be wrong. Also I made the mistake of setting the cpu usage all the way up when I went to lunch. When I came back it took me FOREVER to regain control of the pc. Think Ill just stick to dc++ and downloading music that I never get a chance to listen to.

Set it to low priority & everything should be fine. Also would you happen to be using a firewall &/or a proxy server ?

Per Hansson
03-02-2004, 10:33 AM
Yea, the client has been unable to connect for me also sometimes...

I tried loading it on Novell, didn't like my yahoo e-mail address... I just unloaded it and loaded again and it was fine...

I use Zone Alarm at home and I ok'd the client.

I tried loading it on Novell, didn't like my yahoo e-mail address

This could be my problem here at work. When you reloaded it did you use yer yahoo email again?

I could've put up one or two more, but I just got my electricity bill and it was big, so that isn't an option alas.

But 20k by easter would be a good goal!

Didou
03-05-2004, 02:31 PM
I'm gonna try to get some machines at work on the team.

How's the SETI worm coming along Papeh ? ;)

MrGaribaldi
03-07-2004, 07:29 PM
Well, Mict should overtake me during this day, since it's only 8 WU's that's seperating us now.

Congrats Mict, even though you had to use several computers to overtake my single ;) :D

Didou
03-08-2004, 03:31 AM
Come on people, we've reached 15K but if we are to reach 20K for Easter we're gonna have to add machines or start overclocking like there's no tomorrow.:D

Spike
03-15-2004, 10:53 AM
err, maybe I missed the boat when it first arrived, but has anybody noticed that we now have 505 CPU's in the team @ 959 MHz????, with a processing power of 74.47 Gflops! Cool:D

Nice one guys.

I put myself onto the team. I have a little over 5500 right now, adding about 30 a day. I will put more machines up once I move to CANADIA.

Looks like my k6-2 cranks out 1 unit every 36 hours or so. Thats so bad I don't even know if its worth keeping on. A P2 300 does it in about half that time.

Didou
03-16-2004, 04:58 AM
I keep my K6-2 on it because it would be idling anyways. & it helps for total CPU time.:D

LoL!

I missed with 1k. (We were at 21722 when I posted the prev message)

It's been several years (around 9 if I recall correctly) since I was good at math, so I don't worry about it too much...

But I guess you're right I'll have to learn a bit more if I'm ever to figure out coding.

We're slowing down here..

Didou has become inactive, Neo-Fenix and Skeletal Dragon has left the building, and I've changed Barton 2600+ back to a dual-Celeron.

SNGX1275
04-01-2004, 12:18 AM
I've bumped my average from 3.x to 5.x a day :) But that doesnt' quite make up for Didou passing out on us.

I could get it higher if I asked my dad and sister to run it, but I won't ask them because they are on laptops. (*Note: My mom is already running it on her desktop).

Didou
04-01-2004, 01:50 AM
I took my machines down for some maintenance & haven't got to reinstalling seti back ( & I'd rather not run it at work anymore ). I'll be back in full production very soon but I think we might miss the 25K mark before Easter.:(

LNCPapa
04-01-2004, 09:35 AM
We have 10 days to complete almost 1400 work units. That's 140 WU/day - and we are currently averaging 176 WU/day. I think we're gonna make it if we don't slow down now. I had accidentally stopped SETI on a couple of my machines for a couple days - but I've fixed that. I still haven't brought it back up on my Dual Mac though. I'm still busy working on that machine.
