The door to the cd-rw drive stays open and the light which reads a disk is a steady yellow color. Any suggestions?

Does it stay closed if you push the door itself rather than the button? Im not quite understanding your problem, ill go by your topic title though. If the door can be closed, but keeps opening, then there is most likely a malicious script running on your computer. Scripts like this usually come from buddies trying to trick you as a joke, not from true "hackers",as this script is widely available throughout the net. I suggest checking your task manager for any suspicious tasks.

If you have wintasks use that.

Check your system log for a log of modified files, look for anything which you know that you did not personally modify.

please report back with your progress,
Thanks,

Thanks. Checked my task manager. All seems OK. Door opens in 3 to 5 seconds whether I push buttorn or push the door. Since the light stays a steady yellow and will not read a disk I think it may be the laser is not working and I probably need a new drive. This one is 5 years old.

Many thanks for suggestions, pcdummy

Check the power and flatcable at the back of that drive, may have come loose.
