Ditch IE, use mozilla or firefox instead.

At least attempt to answer the question - comments like this help no one.

I've seen something strange happen before. When I tried to close a toolbar in IE, it actually closed a different one. Meaning if I tried to close Google, it actually shut off my links toolbar. So I had to choose Links, to close Google.

I'm not sure what causes this, but it could be similar. Just remember what each one represents for the future.

sounds like a toolbar/adware issue...... run adaware. Even though you have a pop-up blocker, some toolbars like yahoo let their own adwares through.

normally only have 1 firewall on. I do not recommend norton firewall at all. I've tried it. Zonealarm is far superior and has better compatibility.

In IE, click on View/Toolbars and check if there are any sneaky entries.
And use Manage Add-ons to en/disable BHO's (Browser Helper Objects)

To make sure, go to this post here first, and follow the instructions EXACTLY, especially about UPDATING and HJT-location.
