Why Didn't My Computer Recognize DVD RW of MSI (version DR16-F)

I'm using mainboard of ESC(Model PT800CE-A version1.0 ,bios 9/4/2004,phoenix-AWARD 6.00)It supports HT.I bought a DVDRW drive of MSI(v DR16-F) and installed it into my computer .But My computer couldn't recognize it even I pluged exactly.Why I couldn't install it?.Please show me the way to correct this problem.If I update bios ,my computer will recognize it,won't it ????I don't want to update bios because it's easy to corrupt my computer!

If you are sure you have connected the wires and cables correctly , Try to CLEAR the CMOS . Check your Mb instructions.
