Radeon9250 - rubbish?

I replaced my Geforce 4 mx440 graphic card with a Radeon 9250 128Mb
{GeCube) card. Bad news. An example of some games which ran with no
problems with the old card resulted in the following.
1. Combat Flight Sim.3 - " MS DOS prompt - not enough memory to run this
program."
2. Grand theft Auto - no response when clicking the exe file.
3. Need for Speed - freezes while loading.
4. Race Driver 2 - " Internal error no. xxxxx etc."

I downloaded drivers from Gecube.com site but this did not help.
I have a Gigabyte GA- 8SIMLH-P board with a SiS chipset.
768 DDR Ram.- Windows 98.

Have I wasted my money or can someone provide me with some
constructive remedial advice?

have u tried downloading the drivers from ati's web site ?

Try and install the drivers again but first run drivercleaner. Uninstall the ati drivers, then run drivercleaner, and then install the ati drivers.

I have spent so much time messing around with this card.
I imported a PC technician who spent hours experiencing
the same problems as I outlined previously, plus windows
freezing all the time. He felt that more effort is given to
producing drivers for Windows XP and I should get rid of
98. When I re-installed my old Ge-force 4 card all was
back to normal. By d/loading drivers direct from ATI do
you guys really feel this will solve my problem because
drivers from Gecube.com did not help.

If you have a GeForce or an ATI card, you SHOULD get your drivers directly from them, unless the maker of the card seriously tweaked the hardware.

Go to www.ati.com and just get the driver, make sure it includes your model in the compatability list. You find that on the left side of the screen in the driver area.

You should not forget to change your BIOS settings related to the card as needed - AGP aperture size, AGP 8X- if supported by your mainboard, maybe disable fast writes if enabled - this option often causes instability.
As the others before me said, first try to get the official drivers from ati.com, I highly recommend the dial-up version, without the Control Panel.

went to Radeon / Previous Drivers & software and was confronted
with "Catalyst Win98" / Catalyst component / "display Driver Control
Panel Driver"
I seem to be lost - in this site. More explicit details would be
appreciated. Thanks.

First of all, I must say that you should upgrade to Windows Xp because they are not releasing any new drivers for 98 anymore.
