Hello and welcome go Techspot.
If you take my advice, you`ll get rid of that resource hogging crap altogether.
There`s a Symantec/Norton removal tool HERE (http://www.techspot.com/vb/post407635-31.html).
For alternative AV and firewall software, see below.
AVG free (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1) or Avast (http://www.avast.com/) antivirus programmes.
Zonealarm, (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp;jsessionid=EElu1mSWlQjHS1lqOdGhtXP8vPmn2BX3FugIF1oqBBJ4j9pn XWWc!-559734354!-1062696904!7551!7552!NONE?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=dbtopnav_zass) Kerio (http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm) or Comodo (http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/) free firewall programmes.

I agree with Howard %100. Norton is absolute rubbish and not worth the hassle. I have looked at the logs from many many pc's and the ones with norton on seem to be the worst affected by malware (apart from those with absolutely no protection that is). There is absolutely no reason for keeping that norton crap on a pc.
