Installing programs takes forever, what gives?

I've recently installed some programs and it's taking my PC forever to install them, much longer than it did previously. I defragmented with Diskeeper (I've still got a bit of red left, moreso than expected), ran Ad-aware and AVG to look for viruses/spyware and didn't find anything. I deleted old cache files, tried to clean up the best I can. Has anyone else experienced this? Is my CD/DVD drive getting old?
