Sorry to anyone that I have been helping recently, but i may well be absent for a while as my dad is critically ill in hospital!!
He is barely alive and has a 50/50 chance of surviving.
I wont go into details, but suffice to say that I will probably be spending a fair ammount of time in hospital hoping that he will make it.

DonNagual 01-21-2007, 05:52 AM From experience:
In case it IS his time, be sure that you not only let him know how much you love him, but also how much you feel his love in your life (assuming that is true for you of course).
My thoughts go out to you in support. Let the chips fall where they may, and let love shine through regardless.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, it means soooo much to me!!
I am deeply touched and reading all this had bought a tear to my eye!!
My thoughts go out to N1Hawk in particular. You have my condolences for your loss.
I have some incredible news, don't ask me how, but my dad has survived it all.
He has undergone almost 6 hours of surgery, had over 40 units of blood , and almost died 3 times.
The hospital staff are absolutely incredible and have almost performed a miracle. I have nothing but the deepest respect and admiration for those hardworking and dedicated people!!!
My dads chances were as low as %10 and because of what those amazing people have done for him his chances are now up to %90.
I spoke to him last night and he was well enough to complain about being thirsty!!:):)
He is still very ill but now stands an excellent chance of making a full recovery.
There are no words that are adequate enough to express how incredibly lucky i fell to have such an amazing ammount of support from everyone here on TechSpot and from my few close friends.
I really don't think i could have coped without them!!!!
So a massive THANKYOU to everyone!!!

wolfram 01-26-2007, 03:41 PM I'm sorry too man :(
MetalX 01-26-2007, 07:04 PM Thanks for your sympathy guys. It happened 2 and a half years ago... so it doesn't really bother me anymore. But I know how bad it feels when you lose a parent and I wish nobody had to go through it.
sw123 01-26-2007, 11:15 PM Its terrible to lose a parent. luckily, rik's dad should be perfectly ok
KingCody 01-27-2007, 09:16 PM rik,
I'm very sorry to hear of your father's illness, but extremely glad to hear the surgery went so well :D
I know how it feels to "worry in the waiting room", my father has been battling cancer for the last 2 years. he has been through 2 major surgeries (he now only has half a stomach and only one kidney) along with months of radiation/chemotherapy. the hard recovery can sometimes be the hardest part. I must admit I chuckled a bit when you said "he was well enough to complain about being thirsty"... because that is how we knew my father was doing better too :)
to top it all off, my 98 year old grandmother (who was my father's mother and my last living grandparent) passed away a month before his last surgery. so needless to say the last few months have been rough. just wanted to say I know what you're going through and I know how hard it can be
I wish you and your family all the best, and I wish your father a speedy and trouble-free recovery. if you need any "moral support", I'm here for ya ;)
Some very very good news:)
My dad is now able to breathe for himself!!
As soon as his wounds from the operation are better they will remove his feeding tube and get him eating normally!!
He should be out of I.T.U. in roughly 2 weeks:) :)
He will be in hospital for quite some time yet (probably 2 months or more) but he is healing well, as you can all imagine I'm extremely happy with this news and will hopefully be back here on TechSpot soonish. :) :)
howard_hopkinso 02-10-2007, 06:20 PM That`s great news mate.
All the best to you and your dad.
Regards Howard :)
tomrca 02-11-2007, 04:07 AM so very pleased for you and more so for your dad. thans for keeping us all up to date too:grinthumb
beef_jerky4104 02-18-2007, 02:13 AM I'm glad to hear your father is O.K.
My dad is out of itu already, he is still having some problems talking and is only able to whisper at the moment.
He is also completely off the morphine which is very good news indeed.
I have told him about all the messages of support here on TechSpot and it put a smile on his face. Thank-you everyone!!:)
