cfitzarl 03-13-2007, 06:34 PM Just wondering of people's background  ! BTW, are North Americans the only one that do/are able to consider themselves of a different nationality than the country their born :suspiciou?

beef_jerky4104 03-13-2007, 06:52 PM I'm a dual citizen between the USA and the Netherlands.
I'm 50% Dutch and 50% American, well italian actually because people from the USA aren't really from the USA.
cfitzarl 03-13-2007, 06:52 PM Lol, that's the reason I made this :D
Where were you born?
Tedster 03-13-2007, 06:59 PM 50% Italian

TangoTrolly 03-14-2007, 08:41 AM 100% Dutch, but an American citizen.
LNCPapa 03-14-2007, 10:44 AM Glad to see we're all mature enough to keep this thread from getting out of hand - it has potential to do so. That being said I am:
50% African American
25% Filipino
25% Chinese
NetCablesPlus 03-14-2007, 10:58 AM I am an American by birth and 100% Portuguese by heritage (all four of my grandparents immigrated from Portugal to the USA just before WWI.) When people in the U.S. ask me what I am, I say Portuguese. However, if I am asked while on travel outside of the US, I say American.
cfitzarl 03-14-2007, 06:29 PM :D Same here. I would not consider myself Irish if I went to Ireland; just American ;). It's weird that a geneologist was interested in my family and did a huge report on it.....came here on September 27, 1857 (almost 150 years :grinthumb )!
Tedster 03-14-2007, 06:50 PM They migrated from Siberia ;)...and before that, just like all of us, Africa :D
anthropologists would disagree with you on this. Not all agree.
cfitzarl 03-14-2007, 07:23 PM We supposibly came from 1...yes 1 group of people that at one point had a population of only 10,000....and they migrated and as they did this, reproduced and settled. At least thats' what was on the History Channel :D!
Sjbrand99 03-15-2007, 04:42 AM I am 100% purebred Scotsman, and proud. And if any of you have a problem with that then bring it on.

Other than black pudding, I have no problem with Scots. And I do like Haggis.
:)

During my one visit to Sweden many years ago, I do recall the Swedes mentioning that their equivalent of the USA Blonde (or Polish) jokes were Norwegian-based. Or was it something to do with Vikings, etc.?

You are fairly close. There have been long running feuds between those two countries. Want to tick off a Norwegian? Call them a dumb Swede!
takaboku 03-15-2007, 05:38 PM because people from the USA aren't really from the USA.
ooooops. looks like a person had already posted that.....

JimShady23 03-15-2007, 05:53 PM I am American, I was born and in the good old USA and have as much a right to call it home as any American Indian born on the same day. This country is all I know.

alvdy 03-16-2007, 06:37 AM I was born in New Zealand but my Mum is from England so im :
50% New Zealander
50% British
But I consider myself a New Zealander through and through!
SNGX1275 03-16-2007, 10:18 AM I'm all American. I don't like that statement that nobody here is really from here. If my grandparents on one side were both Irish but say moved here when they were young, and then something else on the other side, I'd be at least 50% Irish according to just about everyone in this thread. Do you think if I went over to Ireland and tried to get involved with some group over there that they give a flip about me being 50% Irish, no, I'd be the American.
Nobody in other countries care at all that you have 1/4 of you able to be traced back to their country.
cfitzarl 03-16-2007, 03:43 PM I think that most native-born peoples in a country refer to themselves as their nationalities, but when speaking to non-natives, they take the role of the country they live in :D!
wolfram 03-16-2007, 04:39 PM I'm 99.99% Mexican, and 0.01% American lol :)
cfitzarl 03-16-2007, 09:46 PM :D Lol wolfram.
ambivolent 03-17-2007, 04:32 AM well it would take me forever to get all the percentages right my moms got her side of the family traced back to the year 1545 but her side consists of Irish,Welsh,French,German,Cherokee, and some others i cant remember at the moment
my fathers side consists of Irish and Mexican,
cfitzarl 03-17-2007, 02:04 PM Someone on my paternal father's side of the family traced back (I think) to the 1600's... !
kitty500cat 03-17-2007, 02:51 PM I don't know...Germany or Switzerland perhaps?
The latest ancestor I traced was I think 16 or 1700s :D
Anyway, probably most or all of my ancestors in the past 100 (if not more) years are from the US.
cfitzarl 03-17-2007, 03:00 PM My family came to the United States on September 27th, 1857...150 years :giddy: (right after the "Great Hunger" or "Potato Famine" which I am learning about in my "Modern History" class...hipocritical name though :D )! We should have a family reunion then :grinthumb !
mailpup 03-17-2007, 03:40 PM My family's paternal side has been in the USA for about 100 years and maternal side almost as long. I'm thoroughly American but as far as ethnicity or nationality goes, I'm 100% Japanese.
Blakhart 03-19-2007, 12:39 PM Italian, Irish, and Native American is my heredity. My nationality is American, or USA.
Mictlantecuhtli 03-19-2007, 03:54 PM 100% Finnish, some ancestors traced back to 1500s.
I wouldn't have minded to have relatives born in different countries / cultures, but no, just here :(
greenflash 03-19-2007, 04:11 PM My nationality is Turkish.
lacer 04-15-2007, 03:01 PM 100% irish
Cyberbabe 04-15-2007, 03:09 PM British - but I'm ˝ Italian :D
twite 04-15-2007, 08:43 PM Im 100% Human.
cfitzarl 04-15-2007, 08:44 PM I'm only 75%......some of my grandparents came from Mars :D !
But seriously, my nationality is 100% American with 75% Irish Heritage and 12.5% English, and Italian Heritage :grinthumb !
cfitzarl 04-15-2007, 09:00 PM Welcome to Techspot OpenBoards  ! May I suggest you open a thread in the Introduction Section!
twite 04-15-2007, 09:10 PM But seriously
I was dead serious. Why does race/nationality matter?
