gnome desktop icon issue

Hi all, im running slack9 and dropline gnome , im having a problem with my home and trash icon. when I click on them they don't open. I know this sounds stupid as i thought, but after a reboot the problem still occured, if I right click my desktop and choose new window, it will apear, but clickin on the icon's yeilds nothing but the chime tellin me
I clicked on it :) any clues would be helpful. thanks
