I have seen the movie twice and loved it! The plot was kinda weak, but for pure viewing enjoyment it rocked. I found the CGI to be spectacular, especially with how close they were able to reproduce human motions. I have also heard that there will be a second installment coming in 2009, so I guess ILM should get their computer farm revved up!

So what did you all think?

yes the 2nd movie is already being worked on. I have a friend in California that's working on some cgi. They use quads too now!

Good CGI and action will always trump plots which offer a long winded, insightful and tedious examination into the human condition. Unless you like sleeping under the theater's air conditioning.

I liked it. Normally I think cheap attempts at humor degrade an otherwise decent movie, but the times that happened in this movie felt appropriate. Like that kid's sarcasm/attitude, for example after the bike crash and when he's talking to the cop in the police station.

Come on, a tech forum and only 3 response to the Transformers movie? I know more of you went to see it. I know who you are, where you live, what you ate for dinner last night and what you favorite color is.:giddy:

So come on everyone and fess up!

I can't afford to go out to the movies, what with paying credit card bills, (run up at Newegg), and the like. This is an unexpected blessing, since I won't be caught in public watching it. You can bet I'll be first in line at Blockbuster the day it drops on DVD. BTW, I've always thought that "Transformers" was one of the cleverest art concepts to ever hit the street. In fact, it was "pinched" in the movie "Returner", which is quite entertaining in it's own right. I'm not typing the synopsis on that one, (slow at the keyboard), but you can hit IMBD if you're curious.

What a badass movie! I saw it, and I instantly felt the flood of memories of the Old Transformers badassness again. Fantastic action and special effects, though I could care less for the desperate and undersexed hero. Some parts felt tedious, like the house scene (Just find the damned glasses already!). The majority of the movie was incredible and awesome. Makes me feel like a kid again :grinthumb

I assume you're referring to Josh Duhamel? You probably wouldn't like "Las Vegas" (NBC Fridays) then. Although he is ,ahem, with Molly Simms on that show

The chick in Transformers was pretty hot, looks a bit trashy outside of the movie though (other movies and pictures you can find online). Actually she kind of looked like that in the movie too, but it wasn't enough to be put off, maybe it was her personality that made up for it.

I am burnt out watching this movie.. Some special effects were good. I don't care for the guy in the film I felt he was over actiing.. Like stealing shots away from the robots and etc.. A lot of actors in this one with short parts to read at times it was funny. CHEV showed off their new Camero, so sells of that car when it comes out will hit the roof.. Oh joy!

Trashy, that would be a problem because......? Brittany Spears, Lindsey Lohan, Hillary Swank, April Scott, Pamela Anderson..... I could go on, mercifully I won't

Personally I don't like the look of the new Camero. The car I did like was the Saleen S281 E Mustang (550 HP & 500 lbs torque). When it was running flat out I loved the sound of the supercharger at full tilt.:hotbounce

I only saw it for Megan Fox :D

Also the animated one was better, the movie was a completely different story ;)

Thankfully, TP proved I'm not the only one who thought the animated movie was better. This one was too...err...Hollywoody...if that's a word ;)
I paid $20 for this movie and I thought most of it went to waste. Only the last half-an-hour was worth it.

Sucks you had to spend that much. I saw it at a local theater here for something like $7.50. Then I saw it in an awesome theater in Denver for something like $5. I spent less than $10 at the movie in Denver with popcorn and a soda.

I haven't seen the animated one, I have watched some of the cartoons. I'm sure I saw most or all of the cartoons when I was a little kid, but I've forgotten everything, but I acquired them again and watch when I get a chance and feel like it.

Just got a HD DVD copy from Netflix. I haven't seen it yet but will do in the next few days. I believe it's going to be a good way to use the Xbox's HD DVD drive for the first time (bundled King Kong sucks IMHO).

I bought it on regular DVD. Wish I had an HDDVD player, but I'd like to see load up times for disks to drop and for them to come down in price. They really shouldn't be that expensive.

I can't remember the animated series. I remember having some of the toys in the 80's though.

The movie was ok - typical Bay movie - but CGI was good as it didn't stand out as being too CGI-like.

I agree with just about everything said thus far haha. I'm a bit late commenting, but I had been busy with work and playing on xbox live. This movie had exactly what I expected. Not so great plot, but amazing visuals. I know they did build the robots for a few scenes, but I think we can all agree there's nowhere in the movie where you are thinking "that's so fake.." If nothing else this movie must be respected for action scenes and visual effects.

I got the 2 disk special edition, the second disk has a bunch of extras about how things were done. Instead of doing entire sequences in CGI many of them were done mostly real, and only the robots for CGI. The explosions and stuff were for the most part real. I was really suprised on the car throws and some of the explosions how close people were to them, only a few feet on several occations.

That scene with Sam towards the end with the All Spark on up on the roof, there was no safety net, he did have a chain around his waist incase he fell, but he wasn't going to fall into a net.

I didn't think the plot was bad. It is an action movie, you don't normally find excellent plots in them, this one one of the better ones.

I thought the movie was okay, but I don't believe it lived up to all of the hype it received even months before the film was released.

I'm just glad to see that kid Shia LaBeouf growint out of the whole Even Stevens acting role. :)

why does everyone hate the plot of Transformers so much? of course it's fiction, but I thought they did a good job, adapting it to today's world... I dunno, just my opinion :-P

Lord knows, there's been a resurrection!

it was horrible

Anyway, Dude, (or dudette, as the case may be), that's harsh.

Since this was an adaptation of a comic book, the story line followed the classic morality tale of the battle of good versus evil, plus the special effects were categorically excellent.
Someone mentioned earlier that they only went to see Megan Foster, they certainly have a valid point. Perhaps the movie would have benefited from an upskirt shot of Ms. Foster. After all, that could be rationalized by writing FX next to it on the shot list.

In any event you, and everybody, have a Happy Thanksgiving! That of course is if you live in the colonies, (as I do). Oh heck, do it anyway.

captaincranky, don't you mean Megan Fox? ;)

captaincranky, don't you mean Megan Fox? ;)

Well, I suppose I did.

"La boeuf" means "the beef" in French. This strikes me as somewhat ironic, since Shia "LaBoeuf" seemed like a prime candidate for an upskirt herself, er himself. Still, in spite of an "heroic" effort, he was unable to ruin the movie for me.

I further predict that Megan Fox's slash "Foster's" acting talent will place her in competition with Jessica Alba for an Academy Award one day. Oh baby, baby, that's some stiff competition! <(dual entendre and pun intended)> This is a bold prediction when you consider that Ms. Alba can generate as much or more interest by walking out of a scene as she can by walking into one.

Well, that'd depend on how clothed or -er- how unclothed she is. ;)

I've managed to resist getting the HD DVD version, already bought the special edition regular dvd. Unless I can sell that to someone it looks like I'm going HD DVDless (unless I obtain it through other ways...)

captaincranky

Well, that'd depend on how clothed or -er- how unclothed she is. ;)

OK, I suppose it's a given that neither Megan Fox or Jessica Alba compare favorably with respect to acting ability with say, Katherine Hepburn, Dame Judith Dench or even Meryl Streep. Still, you do have to consider the exuberance of youth. By this I mean that none of the foregoing "real actresses" would fill out Jessica's costume in the fantastic four. Fast forward a couple of years to Ms Alba's first Botox treatment, after which I'm sure that she will be much more expressive walking away. This assumes of course that she doesn't embrace southwestern cuisine or Jennifer Lopez doesn't write a cookbook.

To pull this thread further off topic, (not maliciously of course), I watched "Live Free or Die Hard" last night. In spite of the fact I wasn't certain I'd like it, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Maggie Quigley is scorching hot, although this treatise on cyber-terrorism probably could have benefited by allowing her talent to "shine" with say, a Jacuzzi scene. You can catch Ms.Q in "Naked Weapon", sort of a cult classic martial arts flick.

Anyway, how much of the computer hacking in that movie do you think could actually be accomplished? Could anybody pull off a "fire sale"? Should we start a poll?

I you want an expansive mythology you might want to follow Battlestar Galactica.
"Transformers" is just a little play about good versus evil with an accidental hero thrown in to hang the story on. The effects do carry it mightily though. If I was the director, I would have gotten Megan Fox into a bikini and hosed her down, but then I'm a pig.

SNGX1275

There was absolutely nothing wrong with Transformers. It did what I believe it was set out to do, which was:

*Appeal to general audience
*Not go terribly against the few peope that grew up in the 80s that actually remember real story lines. (I was born in 1980, grew up with transformers, but I can't tell you much of anything that happened in the cartoon)
*Be a summer action movie

If you are looking for great drama, find another movie.

Realizing its 'faults' I still think it was one of, if not, the best movie of 2007. Mostly because there weren't many good movies last year.

Agreed.

Hellboy2 is coming out this summer. For me at least, the original had a well developed mythology, and a sense of humor. Rasputin, Hell, Nazis, great stuff, I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Like wow, my attention span is exactly 42 minutes, the same length as a one hour TV series episode. (Without the commercials). So wow, "Transformers" was like double extra super long to me.

Now tell the truth, SNGX1275, Isn't what you meant to say, "any explosion removed without hurting the feel of the movie"? Awesome...as they say on the Verizon FIOS ad.

LOL...... ad nauseum
