captaincranky 01-08-2008, 03:17 PM As Firefox's security gets beefed up, it's starting to have compatibility issues with certain hardware and web sites.
As of version 2.0011 (for me anyway), it will no longer display pictures at Amazon or Webshots. I run it with "No Script", but this is after granting (what I believe to be), the proper permissions. "Flashblock" no longer functions either in this version and it needs to be disabled.
I installed a a Foxconn 945P7AA motherboard a couple of days in a machine that had had a board with the newer Intel G965 chipset. The Foxconn board has a "Broadcom" integrated LAN adapter and the newest Firefox is unable to connect to the internet. When I install an older, (2.004) version it hooks up just fine. Unless I missed a "you gotta set it" configuration button somewhere on the later version. But the fact remains, it won't run as installed. Yes, I updated the Broadcom drivers.
mscrx 01-08-2008, 03:34 PM donno if I got all this right but I use firefox 2.0.0.11 and NoScript 1.2.6 and I don't have any problems with no website. plus, no matter if I use the wireless card or the broadcom integrated lan the internet works fine.... so?
captaincranky 01-08-2008, 03:59 PM donno if I got all this right but I use firefox 2.0.0.11 and NoScript 1.2.6 and I don't have any problems with no website. plus, no matter if I use the wireless card or the broadcom integrated lan the internet works fine.... so?.
It doesn't work for me, so obviously you're doing it right if it does.
The "No Script" works fine for me, just not in conjunction with "Flash Block". These issues for me are across 2 different machines. And certain things (for me) don't seem to be working the same. In both cases I did "clean installs" after the attempt at updating failed. In both cases with the same results. No hard feelings though with Firefox, it's still my favorite browser, but Opera, which doesn't exhibit these symptoms gets a little more use. Hey, maybe I'm giving up too easy.
Adden-dumb...: Zone Alarm was apparently running in some sort of bizarre "Stealth Mode". I actually forgot it was installed! It had no tray icon and no control panel. So, I guess it was putting up it's "double-secret, eyes only, invisible" permissions screen. I uninstalled it and FF 2.0011 works like a charm. My Avast AV even updates correctly. Yeah, Firefox! Do I feel stupid, you say? Me no say!
Myzz617 01-09-2008, 02:16 PM Well, I like IE7 because of the tabbed browsing. Other than that i could care less. I really dont have much time to fool with FF but i have used it b4 and know that tabbed browsing comes from FF so I would vote for FF. But ima hold out a while. Safari is not bad but i hate MAC's.
Rage_3K_Moiz 01-09-2008, 02:19 PM Actually, tabbed browsing first appeared in Opera.
captaincranky 01-09-2008, 02:24 PM Verizon Yahoo, bases their browser on IE-6. However, it's highly modded and actually has tabbed browsing. When I was first turned onto Firefox, by the tabbed browsing pitch....I was there scratching my head thinking, don't all browsers have tabbed browsing? Since I went from AOL (trial), to Verizon, I never actually had to use IE6 as IE6. So what, am I the only one who's led a sheltered life?
Myzz617 01-09-2008, 04:27 PM Lol ooo..i aint hip to opera so of to my knowledge, I onlii knew of FF having tabbed browsing b4 i met IE7. But opera has more votes than IE so that says enough i guess
SNGX1275 01-09-2008, 04:31 PM A bunch of positive comments for Opera on Digg (http://digg.com/software/Chris_Mills_on_Why_Opera) recently.
Boogityboo04 01-09-2008, 05:10 PM I've started using opera lately, because frankly, FF has started to suck. It doesn't work correctly with my network adapter anymore, takes ~20 sec to start, and uses up like 250 mb of RAM, which is way too much. Opera on the other hand starts up right away and seems much snappier. I just miss Ad Block and spell check from FF.
captaincranky 01-09-2008, 05:59 PM You have some issues with history cookies, too many windows open at once, something. I'm using FF 2.0011 now with 2 open tabs, and it's using about only 50 MB of memory. I still have the issue with having to click on "View Image" before I can see the pretty pictures at Amazon or Webshots.
SNGX1275 01-10-2008, 10:20 AM I just miss Ad Block and spell check from FF.
Use a custom urlfilter.ini (http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/opera/urlfilter.ini), it isn't quite 'Adblock' but good enough. Then there is OSpell (http://opera.gt500.org/ospell/) for spell checking, although I haven't used it.
VenoMous 01-10-2008, 10:46 PM I started off using IE, and stuck with it for a good while until I started going out and downloading little freeware apps here and there and got viruses in the process, even from sites that were trustworthy. Heard about FF and decided to give it a shot, and stuck with it for a good 3 years. Then, about a year and a half ago, I got Opera and it's been my primary browser since. FF and IE seem slow compared to Opera as far as loading time, and then there are the built-in features that are mostly achieved through extensions in FF/IE (i.e - mouse gestures, speed dial, resuming downloads if connection is lost, etc.). It's a good, robust browser. I only use IE7 and FF when I'm designing web pages/sites and pulling up local HTML files. I may use FF as a backup in case a webpage isn't displaying correctly in Opera, but that's usually a rare occurance.
ShipMaster 01-10-2008, 10:52 PM I use FireFox, I find it more user friendly and more enthusiast based.
jtickner1 01-31-2008, 10:18 AM A lot of sites i come across on the web have a little Firefox image saying click here to get FF or whatever. Well i made my own for Opera when i was bored. I have placed it on my myspace and will be putting it everywhere else i can.

Feel free to paste it anywhere you want with the code below, Opera will overtake FF with this single image :D

Obi-Wan Jerkobi 03-17-2008, 09:27 PM It was opera but then it started acting crazy, a page would load just fine sometimes, sometimes it would just be stuck infinitely loading images (Loading Images 1648/1648) both numbers would go up at the same rate...sigh...back to firefox...:(
WTFTheHorseman 04-14-2008, 11:20 PM Firefox for sure!
Zenosincks 04-14-2008, 11:24 PM I used Firefox for about two years faithfully, I started to experience issues with it about a year ago so I converted to Opera. I've just recently tried Firefox again with the assumption that everything should of been worked out through the course of a year, and, it was. I am now using Firefox again.
Opera seemed a bit too dense or something. Very sluggish compared to Firefox in my experience.
caravel 04-15-2008, 05:21 AM Firefox. I started out with Netscape, moved to Mozilla 1.x and then finally on to Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox when it was first released as an alpha. The early releases were just a folder you unzipped and then created a shortcut to the program. It was very light and fast back then. Opera is a nice browser and I usually have it installed, but I prefer Firefox out of personal choice.
Mindstormer 04-16-2008, 01:16 AM Firefox here, I love my extensions. There are just too many features that no other browser has to offer as a result of them.
jtickner1 04-17-2008, 09:28 PM 2 new features I think Opera needs in the next update are;
Pages for Speed Dial
Ability to organize feeds within folders
That would be great :D
lonerider 04-18-2008, 06:43 PM used to use Opera but then it was causing some problems so went back to plain ol' IE
