Hi all, I've cut a window in my pc.
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q228/TootEmCarMan/newwindow.jpg

I have decided that i want to put the TS logo on my window.

Julio, if you should see this, do i need permission from you?

I have 2 different ideas so far. 1 to paint the logo with a uv reacting paint as i have 4 uv tubes inside my case. 2 to cut the TS logo out of another piece of clear acrylic and stick the letters onto the inside of the window and light them with led's.

Just wondered if anyone had anything to add or any better ideas?

What did you use to make the cut?

I would fit a really thin fishtank for tropical fish.
You could then use the water to cool the really stressed CPU and at the same time provide free heat for the fish.
Nice piece of metalwork but where did you get that chair!

Hmmm, i have a few questions to answer.

nickslick74, i used a jigsaw cutter with its base plate covered in masking tape.

AlbertLionheart, i have thought about making the window (or part of it) into my reservoir but as yet haven't found a good clear glue that i would trust.
And the chair came out of a Capri and i modded it a bit. I'm sitting on it right now and its well comfy.

My son is an expert in glass furniture and would be able to make the case without any problem. There is a problem, and that is I would have to give away my carefully protected identity to tell anyone who he is.......
Capri seat - thats extreme. Perhaps you had better tell those from across the pond what a Capri is/was.

Ok AlberLionheart, a Capri is a 1980's car made by ford. There are plenty of pic's to be found via google if anyone wants to know any more about it.

And here's what one looks like.

Just been looking at the front of my pc, i have 3 unused floppy bays (yup, 3, no mistake). I think that that would be the best place for my reservoir. AlbertLionheart, could you ask your son if he could recommend a good clear glue that's not too hard to come by? I got some fish tank sealant but i don't think it will be strong enough. I'm using the kind of clear acrylic that homebase sells if that's any help.

Here's the floppy bays on my pc, the floppy drive is in there to cover the hole, it isnt plumbed in at all.

I personally wouldn't go with the LED's, but the neon paint idea sounds pretty cool. I had a guy I knew cut out Yoda from the side of his case (no window), and lit it with a green LED. Looked pretty sweet. If you can get away from seeing the wires, the LED's might not look too bad, really.

Codex Computing, now thats what I call fishing for help.:D

tie_mann101, I'm beginning to lean towards the glued on letters and led idea. I was thinking of mounting the led's so that they cant be seen by using high brightness ones in bits of metal tubing so that they are more focused.

Now here's an idea - attach a Capri instrument consol to the front of a PC case!
And yes, James - I know what a Capri is; used to sell them in Germany. Now that's showing my age.....

Rik

Thats a nice idea, but, I dont really want to do too much to the front of my case because it has a perspex panel that i have lit with blue led's and I think it looks pretty good at the mo.
Theres no makers name on my case anywhere or i'd google for a pic of it.
I will keep looking for a pic tho.
Some advice about glue would be handy.

This pic is very similar to my front panel but is not exactly the same.

The glue is some sort of secret - all I know is that they set it with either u/v or i/r light.

Rik
09-07-2007, 05:30 AM
That sounds like windscreen repair resin as that requires uv light to make it set quickly. I'm just after some glue that will stick clear acrylic, the type you can get from homebase. Thats where my acrylic came from, they threw out a load of offcuts, so i nabbed em with their permission.

AlbertLionheart

Thats the stuff - but my son uses it to bond glass for furniture.

Rik
09-07-2007, 06:20 AM
Problem is, that stuff is only for glass and is expensive.

AlbertLionheart
09-07-2007, 06:25 AM
True = but I know bugger all about glues! What about a superglue?

Rik
09-07-2007, 06:27 AM
Superglue is way too messy. I was wondering if your son may have some good suggestions?

AlbertLionheart
09-07-2007, 06:29 AM
I'll email him about glueing acrylic sheet and see what he says. Idle little oik has not replied to an email I sent him 2 hours ago so be patient!

Cheerz AlbertLionheart, i appreciate the help.:)

The boy says the stuff you need is called Tensole - different types for different thicknesses.
The only source he knows is Amari Plastics in West Bromwich
Hope this is helpful!

Rik
09-07-2007, 09:06 AM
Thankyou and thank him for me, west Bromwich is way too far away. I will do a bit of googeling.

After a bit of googleing, i came up with this - http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/ACRYLIC_GLUING.htm

Er, um, DOH!. Seems i had a perfectly good glue all along. I have been doing some model making and i have a bottle of Revell glue. I just tried it on some off cuts and it seems to stick the acrylic really well. Er, how could i have missed that.

AlbertLionheart
09-07-2007, 09:33 AM
Thats weird - I have just posted the name of the acrylic glue and source - and it ain't sodding well here! Will go and find it again.................

Tensole - you get different types for different thicknesses.
Its more of a welding sovent than a glue - melts the plastic together!
Source - Amari Plastics in West Brom

I gotta say DOH and DOH again. it seems that both of these products i already have should be suitable for what i want to do, oops!!! Someone musta shot me with a stoopid gun.

Sorry Codex, I don't have a pic of it. I've been trying to find the guy, because I haven't talked to him in awhile, and he also has some other things of mine. If I get ahold of him, I'll see if I can post a pic.

The main reason for wanting to glue is to make a reservoir as the one that came with my water kit is way too small for the bigger and better pump that i now have.

Rik
09-08-2007, 05:09 AM
Does anyone else have any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas?

AlbertLionheart
09-08-2007, 06:20 AM
Rik, I have this aversion about mixing fluids with electrics so any suggestions about having your own personal pond in the system case gives me the creeps!

Rik
09-08-2007, 06:33 AM
I used my water kit in my old 32bit system for over 3 years without a problem.
I now run a 64bit socket 754 so i have had to "adapt" my cpu water block mountings. As soon as i have the reservoir built I will be fitting my water kit.

I did once have a major water spillage inside my 32bit pc during the early stages of fitting, but I left it to dry out, checked it all, and had no problems at all.

Electronics generally has no problem with water, its the impurities in the water that causes the problems.

Rik
09-08-2007, 03:33 PM
This is a mock up of what i want to achieve.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q228/TootEmCarMan/Picture003.jpg

I'm afraid you will have to use your imagination, the 2 fan grills will have blue led fans behind them and the letters will be clear and lit by other led's.

I am hoping to get Julio's consent/permission to use the TS logo on my pc, but i haven't heard from him and I'm eager to get it done.

Rik
09-08-2007, 05:14 PM
Nope, no news from Julio as yet. He's a busy guy i suspect.

Rik
09-09-2007, 04:57 PM
I came up with a new idea. I am going to cut a window in the top of my case. here's a pic of what i intend to do.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q228/TootEmCarMan/casetopidea.jpg

The black areas will be clear acrylic. My psu has blue led fans in it so that will light it all up.

I cant wait to get my case sorted.:) The problem is my feet and legs are swollen and quite painful at the moment, so i recon it will take a while to do.:( I will get started on it tomorrow and add pictures in this thread as i go if anyone is interested.

AlbertLionheart
09-10-2007, 04:24 AM
Sorry to hear about the feet & legs - nothing to do with the Capri seat I hope?

Rik
09-10-2007, 04:52 AM
Cheerz AlbertLionheart, nope, the seat has nothing to do with it. I have a suspected kidney problem of some kind. Should hopefully know more when i get all my test results on thursday.

Woooo hooooo, I just got an email from Julio and he is absolutely fine with my window mod. Fantastic news.:D

AlbertLionheart
09-10-2007, 07:45 AM
Sheeesh - hope it all works out with the test results on Thursday: best of luck - and you will have to let us know what this case looks like when you have it finished.

Rik
09-10-2007, 01:09 PM
Thanx AlbetLionheart, im keeping my fingers crossed that it isnt too serious.

On a brighter note, ive got the 2 fans fitted.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q228/TootEmCarMan/Picture008.jpg

Now that Julio has very kindly given me his permission to use the TS logo, i will start cutting the letters out tomorrow.

AlbertLionheart
09-10-2007, 01:36 PM
Cool - that Capri seat is really soooo hot hot hot!

Rik
09-10-2007, 02:05 PM
My friend who gave me the seat still has the matching one and the back seat.
How about a capri sofa??:)

AlbertLionheart
09-10-2007, 02:32 PM
Nah - that would be so cool you would need too many fans......

Rik
09-10-2007, 03:08 PM
Not quite sure what you mean there?!?!

AlbertLionheart
09-10-2007, 03:31 PM
One front seat = 2 fans. How many for the whole back seat?? Sorry - joke!

Rik
09-10-2007, 03:34 PM
Oic, at least 4.:D

AlbertLionheart
09-10-2007, 03:40 PM
Er - how many birds could you get across the back seat of a Capri?? 3 at least = 6!

Rik
09-10-2007, 06:14 PM
The more the merrier.:D

Update, i have the R cut. Its still rough as i need to do a fair bit of filing and sanding but im well chuffed at how it looks already.

Rik
09-12-2007, 08:42 AM
Another update, i have cut the TS letters out, they are very rough as yet and need a lot of sanding and polishing but I'm well pleased with how they look. It's taking time, but it's getting there.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q228/TootEmCarMan/Picture011.jpg

AlbertLionheart
09-12-2007, 08:54 AM
Cool - what did you cut the letters from?

Rik
09-12-2007, 08:58 AM
I cut them from a scrap piece of perspex that a friend got hold of. I think it came from some old vending machine of some kind.

Rik
09-13-2007, 05:59 PM
I have decided to make a small change to my reservoir plans. I'm no longer going to put it in the 3 floppy bays, instead, I'm going to fit a fan there and convert behind that area into a hard drive bay. I will make a larger reservoir in my 2 spare 5.25" bays instead.

Rik
09-16-2007, 06:56 PM
Update, grrrrrr, i hate filing!!!

09-16-2007, 07:19 PM
well its part of the mod job, got to make it look good

Rik
09-16-2007, 07:22 PM
I'm just glad it wasn't a steel case, it'd take even longer.:)
