3.0 Prescott problem with heat!!

There isn't a whole lot you can do about the heat. The Prescotts were well known for the heat they produced. Don't lap (sand) the processor as it will only run a few degrees cooler and you'll void your warranty. Just accept that your processor is going to run hot.

If you just can't live with such a beast then return it and purchase an older Northwood core P4. I have one and they run at 60-65 F at most.

hmmmm return it, i had 7 days to return for refund ive had it for 4 days, and mailing takes too long so i wont make it in time www.newegg.com for the lose... and hmm a northwood, would that be the 2.8 Pentium 4 ?

As the post above me says, get a new heatsink. My Prescott runs at 165F on load :stickout: !

changed heatsink now runs at 51-55C idle, and runs 65-70C under heavy gaming load... hmmm lapping to maybe drop it a few degrees ?
