Upgrading ASUS A2H.

Hi people.
I have an oldish A2 that I have been repairing,
It had a 2.6ghz celery desktop cpu that was running very very hot that I have replaced with a 1.8 p4,from a retired beast, this has definately solved the heat problem (as well as removing half an inch of dust) and I would say that performance is around the same.

The questions I have for you all are these,

1. the max cpu speed for this machine is 2.8ghz, now there are a few of these chips floating around on ebay but there are far more chips clocked @
3ghz, if I was to use one of these would the MB simply downclock the chip or would I fry the MB? also would the heat issue return?

2. Regarding RAM, the machine curretly has 512mb of DDR SDRAM, not enough in 2007, the new memory I am looking at buying is DDRII 667,
Will this make a difference or do I need to stick with DDR?

many thanks in advance.

You can only use the types of ram your mobo was designed to use. Go to www.crucial.com and make use of their database to find out what ram your mobo supports.

Thanks Rik.
followed your advice, visited the site.
Apparently this machine can only use DDR pc2700 not DDRII and is limited to
1gb pretty dissapointing really because it's shared graphics so that only gives me 992mb.

any ideas about the cpu?

For the cpu, you will have to look up your mobo on the asus site.
