To all of you people who post your system specs in your signatures: I dislike you. It's like 15-20 lines of something we don't really need to read. Please, for the sake of punctuality, please don't post them in your signature. If you have a problem that has the need for your hardware, post them in your thread. If you would like to brag about your dream machine (shut up Papa :haha: ), we have Post System Specs HERE! (http://www.3dspotlight.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=535) for that. Even though I'd like to know what all of you are running, It just gets too long and annoying after a while...

Sorry you dislike me..I find it helpful to post my sys specs in my sig so when I have an issue all my info is right there.
It was especially helpful when I was putting Red Hat on my laptop.

I tried to keep mine short! Just the basics, but i also think its kinda useful :D

I had one earlier, kernel panic in Linux, but then I figured that I don't need one. I used to change it every now and then in the old forum, now I don't know why I did that ;)

try using small text size, that way it doesn't distract from your post.

Nobody wants to see a sig or image bigger than their own post. Kinda like SHOUTING, :hotbounce where your mouth predominates over your head.

I knew you werent serious..I just thought I would be as blunt as you were. When I resized my sig. I saw where you were coming from. Like Unk said, I was shouting my specs at everyone.

I hope my signature doesn't annoy anyone, but I too understand how it can be annoying. If I am posting in the word games or something I turn my signature off so that as many posts as possible can be displayed on one page. Its kinda a waste of space to have some meaningless drivel in it (system specs aren't!) and then post one line and take up half a thread page !!!

Why go through all this when you can disable the signatures in the User Control Panel? :D

I don't really want to turn off signatures, some people have very interesting ones.

And I'm not being late for anything, it just gets repetitive.

Why Not? Because some do list their system specs for our consideration in solving problems.

Thank you uncleel! I've been waiting for someone to say that. I personally had my specs, but I normally don't have too many problems to ask about so I took it off. I do think system specs can be useful at times, as I hate to ask the newbies for their specs after their first few posts.

There's nothing wrong w/ having a sig, as long as it's not to distracting. Many of the mods have used their sigs for information, including our 3Ds sponsors, tweak guides, homepages, etc. Just keep it on the conservative side, size wise.

My post are, I hope, on the whole good answers to people's questions, interesting posts of view, and interesting quotations from things I have read.

Whilst I will admit to the odd, very sporadic mess around, i.e. the 3000 posts event, I'd like to think that most of what I say here is worthwhile.

Learning is great! You just have to find the right thing to study, that's all.

Still, I am a little older than you and have done all that having fun stuff..... Drink, women, late nights, other things... Nice whilst it latest but I am starting to think I can't hack it any more.... I must be getting old.

In a sense, university years are a little wasted on you if you left just after school. You should have like 4 years or something after high school to just basically be a drunk and go to parties all of the time and stuff and get it out of your system.

Then, probably mid-20's or so, then do the degree.

I am not trying to be patronising, so I am sorry if my post comes off that way. I am being serious. A nice 4 years after high school partying your socks off and then a degree would be a better idea. Not that I come to do another degree a few years later, my ONLY goal is learning and getting the qualification and I am not interested at all in the social aspects....

Phant - I'll agree with your reasoning behind that. But I think Poertner_1274 and I come from a not so common school.

Our school is in a city of 16,000 people, our school is probably around 5,000 students (correct me if I'm wrong poert). The next largest cities are Springfield, St. Louis, and Jefferson City, all over an hour and a half drive away generally. This school is right around 70% male, and out of the 30% of females that go here I'd estimate that 50% of them are overweight. Now that leaves about 15% of the school that is female that is not overweight, putting them in what most average 18-24 year old guys would consider a "date-able" group. Now this causes, with so many guys and so little girls, guys to become less selective on who they'd date. Girls that wouldnt' get attention at a 50/50 school now are even hard to talk to because anytime you are in a social environment with them there are 4+ guys talking to them (if you were following my math and think 4+ is wrong - more of the guys here go to social events than girls).
Now all thats left to do here is a fraternity party or a random keg party at a private residence. Fraternity partys here aren't that great because campus hates Greeks here - we have so many rules and regulations its retarted. Examples: To be able to drink you have to carry in your own alcohol, and wear a wristband, if you don't have a wristband you can't drink (not strictly enforced at our house :)), you can't get a wristband if you aren't 21.
If you are not Greek (in a fraternity or serority with a greek ID) or not on the guestlist you aren't comming in.
You must be on the guest list 24 hours prior to a party.
This means that if you get a phone call from 5 of your hot high school friends and they say they are comming through tonight - no matter what you do they are goign to be turned down if they try to get in (remember this school only has 30% girls anyway).
Now there are many more rules which are probably good for keeping us out of trouble, but they destroy the fun of a party.

Now - I've been here 4 years and so has Poertner_1274 so we really aren't looking for people to say "man that sucks", cause we already know and that doesn't do anything to make this place better. Now some of you might be thinking "why'd you go to a school that sucks that bad?". Well the answer is that this school has the central midwest's best undergrad engineering degrees out of public universities, and the reason I'm still here, our geology/geophysics undergrad program is amoung the best in the nation regardless of public or private (was ranked 2nd just a year or 2 ago).

So to wrap things up. School would be great if you went to a school where there are things to do for fun within a 30 minute drive (bigger cities and larger schools tend to have places that are fun, at least more fun that a small town like Rolla has). School would be more fun if there were more than 15% of the students that were date-able. School would be more fun if campus officials would let us have a little more freedom. School would be more fun if we didn't have to take 1-3 more semisters more of classes to get the same degree as some of the other well known engineering schools: Purdue, MIT. I'll post the hour requirements if I find them in a bit, storming right now outside and I fear we are about to lose our power.

I also have a 21" monitor, with 1600x1200 res, and it is very bothersome. How long do you plan on having it on there? Just so people read it and understand, or forever?
