As I suspected a few days ago, AMD have just made it official (the first reader comment is a hoot) . Nice to XFX coming to the party, although that double lifetime warranty is going to cost them big.

:haha:Anyone buying the card probably is in need of psychiatric help.
I'd say it goes against the unwritten rules of reviewing. Stock vs stock or OC vs OC. The 6990 @ 880MHz is either overclocked being reviewed against stock competition, or it's a factory stock setting with no warranty. You see what I mean about having your cake and eating it too?Without a doubt it was just plain disingenuous of AMD to add subterfuge to the mix during release week. It was a lie of omission at the very least. as far as Guru , Hexus , etc putting an Astrix on the benches if they knew, I'm sure they would have. I just don't understand why in the hell turn this into a deal! anyone who spends more than two bits on a VGA knows overclock = voided warranty.
Me too. You might have noticed I like kicking the hornets nest on occasion.I guess I just have more fun with the people who are claiming moral outrage at the bios/OC switch voiding the warranty.
Indeed I do. They usually have mothers that wish they'd have stayed in school long enough to learn about contraceptionYou know the type...
At least the new solder is RoHS. Graphics card as geek insence burner.nice.***a little OC'ing advice for you Chef...just add .20v off the bat...then your covered!

Tom's recently caused a fairly large ruckus by running a GTX460 FTW as competition against the stock 6870...I remember some forum members were quite disapponted (or aggrieved) over the matter, yet the FTW was a factory warranteed card. At least the FTW is front-and-centre an overclocked card, whereas some reviews of the 6990 were very vague in their terminology (Hilbert's review simply stated "6990 unlocked" for instance)
