It's "obsolete" and I hope you didn't shell out much for it. If you're going to use it for basic web browsing and word processing it should be more than fine, however, you might want to invest in a bit more RAM or you'll be visiting anger management classes.

It's obsolete, but quite servicable for many uses. Don't expect to be running "Crysis" on it anytime soon.

Yeah stayzzhard it'll probably go soft waiting to get anything done with 264MB of RAM onboard. Ya, like that RAM thing, great metaphor, yes?

The CPU in your computer came out sometime mid-2002 to 2003 so you can figure your computer is 4 - 6 years old. That doesn’t mean it can’t still be a good work horse but don’t expect it to achieve the same performance / response times or be able to support the same range of applications (e.g. 3D gaming) the way a newer computer can. (That means it can't support Windows Vista either.... but many would say at least that's a good thing!)

You can, however, boost its performance by investing in more RAM (though you probably don’t want to invest too much $$ into it vs. saving up to buy a newer computer when you can).

You can go to memory dealer’s site, like crucial.com, and allow them to scan your computer to see just what you have now and what options you have in adding more memory. Based on your specs, your computer has two memory slots. You either have 2 x 128MB RAM chips (one in each slot) or 1 x 256MB RAM chip (in one slot while the other slot if empty). You can add 1 x 512 MB chip for about $26 or 1 GB for $50 (plus shipping and taxes). You should see noticeable performance improvement for that $25 - $50 investment.

It’s not hard to change the memory yourself but its important you first read carefully how to do it as the only “difficulty” is knowing what to do so as not to damage the memory chip by static electricity shock, touching its metal edges (vs gripping it by its plastic edges) and making sure the chip is firmly inserted into its memory slot so as to make good electrical contact but knowing you should never need to force it into a memory slot.
