Unable to uninstall Symantec AV Client 8.x

When I try removing it through the Add/Remove programs, it goes through the sequnce of removing it, but it still remains. Tried the Norton Removal Tool - it does not load on the machine (server is running Server 2000). Contacted Symantec and they gave me a link that instructed me to do many registry changes, which I did. I also deleted all files and folders associated with Symantec as well. After making the changes, the AV client still appears in the Add/Remove programs, except now "Remove" is greyed out. I need to upgrade this system with a more current version of AV software, but can't since a "Legacy Symantec product is still installed" Anyone have any experience with this? Any help would be appreciated.

Try running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to get rid of the rest of the files:
