Okay well while I've made a topic about this before sort of I really am freaking out here I have it narrowed down Ill give all the info i can. Its the Hp Dv1040us.

So here is some info about the computer

what I need to know is if the newegg hard drive will work or if you fellas/ladies have bought from them I have noticed they have older parts for the same price they would have costed when they were first introduced(look at the Geforce 6800gt $350 :s, so it makes me a little iffy.

I don't think I would ever buy a "refurbished" laptop hard drive... The hard drive is simply an IDE 4200 rpm 60GB laptop hard drive. A 5400 rpm drive will work too. Newegg is a fine company. I buy from them all the time... It is your decision

dude the one from Hp new is 400 dollars thats why i was looking into getting a new one from newegg instead of paying 400 for a new one from hp. So im to understand I can get a large capcity hd but ill have to update bios .....but from scratch you see my orginal hd failed so how would i go about doing that or should i just stick to a smaller drive?

I know the hard drives from HP or any other computer manufacturer are very expensive. You may be able to go from 60GB to 80 or 160GB without any trouble, including not having to update the laptop's bios... Try sticking with a max of 5400 rpms too
