We are not sure of the possibilities since Lenovoa bought out the IBM computer business, but two years ago, there was no way to repair a Thinkpad password problem, except to have the motherboard replaced.
I am not aware of any IBM or Lenovo Thinkpads which have had passwords removed without a hardware change.
