Too late, I just reformatted however I can't get windows vista to install.
I get a stupid 0x80300001 error which I can't be able to solve at all ways I tried (Partition Magic etc). Anyway, I was using Windows XP Wireless Zero Service to manage my wireless connection... What where you using ? Intel's software or the built in one ? Thnx |

I'm using the built in one.
And the more I think about it, the more I think that could be the problem. If XP's tool is relying on a driver feature that Intel doesn't support, that could hang the connections tray. . . just speculation. -_- As for your Vista install. . .I've come across threads where users with Vista encountered the same problem. (I'm trying to find an example to post.) |

I just tried this. . .seems to be on point, and explains the "randomness". If you can recover that computer, it might be worth a try.
support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-006205.htm I'll keep you posted on how it works for me. But since I haven't had any trouble yet today so it will be tough to gauge. |

Thanks for your reply.
Vista is giving me headaches. I can partition the drive with the built in tool in the Visita Setup, I can format it, split it etc but It wont just install Vista on it, very frustrating if you ask me. If I cant get vista to work by tommorrow I will reinstall XP again and download + install the Intel tool to see if that fixes the problem. Very annoying if you ask me just to get WiFi to work. Thanks again for your replies, really appriciate it and I hope we can both sort this problem out forever ! |

No problem. I agree this is absurd.
You may not need the Intel utility. That article I linked to in my last post has worked for me so far. No dropouts all day. Regarding your Vista install problem, I'd suggest using a Linux installation disk (such as OpenSuse) to repartition your hard drive. Then cancel the Linux install and start over with Vista. Or XP. . . whatever you want. And make sure your data/OS are on different partitions so you can easily change your mind later. |

Alright an update from me.
I reinstalled XP since I couldn't get Vista to work. I tried what is described on the Intel's page. In the beginning I thought it was working. But as soon I start an CPU intensive task, like a game as Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour, after 2-3 minutes the pc is getting slow again and Connections Tray has hung itself up again. This is soo frustrating. Should uninstalling the bluetooth application and drivers help ? The wireless and bluetooth chipset are located on the same chipset. Maybe that is giving conflicts ? Thanks |

Update:
Disabling Bluetooth does not work. Going to uninstall bluetooth right now,s ee what happens. |

Update 2:
Uninstalling Bluetooth doesn't work. Now switching over again to Vista. Got a new cd, that should do the trick... |

Disabling PSP (the Intel article) has solved my problem. Its been over two days without a dropout - which hasn't happened for me since I bought the computer.
I'm sorry to hear that it hasn't improved your situation. Keep me posted and I'll continue to provide whatever assistance I can. |

I do have noticed that if I don't use resource eating applications, like games, the wireless internet will work fine.
As soon I start up a game like Command and Conquer generals (which runs great on this laptop as long connections tray isn't hanging) the WLAN starts to crash.... Vista install is almost ready. Keep you posted. |

Update:
Right, I got vista installed and I installed ALL Drivers EXCEPT Wireless and Bluetooth drivers, since Vista already found and installed them itself automaticly. Good news: The Wireless Network works fine now ! Which means it was a driver thingy in XP which didn't support my chipset for 100%... Bad news; Performance of my pc has gone down BIG TIME. On XP I could play Generals Zero Hour on the highest settings (with heat effects turned off) and on Vista i can play it only on the very very very lowest settings... that sucks really. I already popped in 2 gigs of extra ram, making it a total of 2,5GB but really it is a hell of a job slower than XP. But it's that or no wireless.. well.. I choose for this than, got to live with it... So, if you are a google user looking for a solution, I'm afraid the only thing I can give you is: Install Vista. Yep, that fixed my problem, but you might also try the CAM trick mentioned above, if you are lucky it works, but it didn't for me... Thanks for all the support here, really appriciate it ! |

Clean install and I installed XP twice with a clean install from different XP discs.
WiFi still working fine. |

Well if you do a clean install it wipes everything out. Now if you said you did 2 times it can be other things like is this a laptop or dektop. Did it come with this wireless card was it a cista computer by default.

Well by your first post. If you got it from china then let me ask you when you got it back where you live did it work at all. It could of been a setting that they require.
I had a job maintaining the wifi for a hotel which would bring in a lot of people that manufacture items from china each time they would come they could not use there wifi I had to take a look at there at there laptop and change some settings. But thats has nothing to do with this since it is working |
